You will not see Gates on the travel channel or any other commercial show but those from Kansas City KS and Kansas City MO know that Gates Bar-b-que is a institution. If you want some good que you must eat here. This is the joint of presidents such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and they have the presidential platter.... More

I have been eating at Gates BBQ my whole life. Turkey on a bun or Burnt End Sandwich are the two best things I've tried! Best big steak fries too! The sauce sets them apart from other BBQ places in the area. Perfectly tangy! Yum!

Went to the State Line Road location on a Friday during the lunch rush. There were a lot of people waiting in line to place their orders, which I took as a good sign. The line moved pretty quickly. A friend of ours who lives locally recommended we try the burnt ends sandwich and we were not disappointed. Great caramelization... More

We went to the place on State Line. There is not a lot of parking here and the neighbors have put up big signs asking you not to use their parking lots. We ended up parking behind a building on grass. There was a long line and a lot of confusion to get our food. I guess it was part... More

Just got off of plane from Las Vegas. My friend and I joined my family on 12th Street on May 15,2013. We both ordered short ends, potato salad and drinks. The short-ends were tough!. Lights went out all over and smoke began to fill the restaurant. We could not eat. As we walked out, we all left our food and... More

My wife and I recently went to Kansas City on a business trip. The hotel where we stayed recommended Gates BBQ down the street as a good place to eat BBQ. We went and finally got our order placed while standing around with a crowd of take out picker uppers. We ordered a slab of ribs and slaw. The ribs... More

HI May I help you is there catch phrase when you enter the restaurant and they mean it! They have great service and good food. The beans are the only deficit-they taste like out of a can.

When you walk in you smell the wood smoke and meat cooking. The staff give you a smile and a shout (hello may I help you please) the ribs are the best a must try. I always order with no sauce and add it as I eat. The fries are always big crisp and hot. The beans are sweet. Just... More
