Excellent food and great view over the Dordogne river. Menu € 27-32 so not too bad. Highly recommended.
We were the only diners on a Friday evening, clearly out of season. Food was well cooked with good sized protons and interesting flavours and textures. Had to slow service down but thoroughly enjoyable evening. Worth a visit.
Something of a local restaurant for us. The menu although short is ever-changing which here in the land of duck, duck and more duck; all served with pommes sarlardais is a real blessing. The staff are lovely and welcoming, the dining room is a bit sparse which means it doesn't have a lot of ambience but the food is good,... More
Second visit to this restaurant in the past 3 years and the quality and service is as good as the first visit. Better to eat on the terrace if possible. The main interior dining room is small and the vibe depending on the gathering, can make or break the experience. That's not a criticism of how the restaurant is run... More
We had lunch here two years ago when travelling in France and wondered whether it would live up to our expectations the second time around. It was even better than we remembered. Last time it was rather chilly and windy and almost all diners sat inside. This time the weather was very warm and sunny and we sat outside on a... More
I make no apologies for writing a further review of La Gabarre. We have a holiday home in the next door village, and every visit has to include a trip to La Gabarre - it is magical. It is our choice for special occasions or for treating visiting friends. The terrace views of the river a hundred feet or so... More
I booked this restaurant prior to our recent road trip driving from Spain through France. We were staying at the Hotel Bon Encontre in Sarlat and it was just approximately a 15 minute drive away. We were given a lovely table overlooking the Dordogne. The waiter was more than happy to help with the translation of the menu, and the... More
Location overlooking Dordogne is superb, food is excellent & hosts professional. One to put on any gourmet itinanary.
We live in nearby Sarlat and so eat at many of the restaurants in the area. La Gabarre is always our choice for special meals with friends or for birthdays. The setting is magical and the staff are friendly and efficient. However the food is the real star of the show. One recent review described the food as "rustic". I... More
Enjoyed our meal here, friendly waitstaff who'd happily translate the French menu (written on blackboards) for you. Pretty friendly prices too. For a more detailed account (with photos), check out my travel journal: http://fatboo.com/2014/07/loire-dordogne-valley-midi-pyrenees-france.html
