The complete package

We've been lucky enough to stay within walking distance this week, so have been twice. Not cheap (c. €180 for three people, full menus, 2 bottles of wine), but worth every penny. The food is great, although expect a small menu. If you are fussy, this might not be the place to go. The hosts are... read more

this is a splendid restaurant worthy of a lunch or dinner visit. The ingredients are sourced locally and almost daily and are as fresh as can be! Menu changes frequently but favourites stay around a while. The cooking matches the need perfectly resulting in quite exciting plates of food. We have been here before as we live close by and... What a magnificent setting in which to share a meal with friends! And, what an equally imaginative and delicious meal, superbly prepared and served to us ! The different combinations of freshly resourced produce were a delight. Great attention to detail and beautiful, yet us fussy presentation complete the picture. The staff are all delightful, attentive and charming service. We... More

Absolutely superb dinner with a stunning view of the Dordogne. Everything was extremely fresh, cooked to perfection. Lodovic and Valentine serve an excellent selection of fresh fish, seafood, lamb, beef, poultry along with local favorites - magret de canard, foie gras. Dishes are imaginatively prepared and beautifully presented. Vegetables and salads are crisp fresh, so full of flavor. So much... More

Valentine and Ludovic's spot on the river gets better each year. This was our third in succession and despite silly temperatures (from our west of Scotland backgrounds) made things a little bit uncomfortable but this was quickly forgotten with foie gras and steak tartare starters, duck and steak mains, macarones and chocolate/walnut desserts. Exquisite. Ludovic's welcome and detailed explanation of... More

We biked to La Gabarre from Sarlat on a cold, rainy afternoon. We were given the name by the owner of La Blanquette, we rode around the town for about 20 minutes looking for it and almost gave up...I'm so glad we didn't! The owner gave us blankets and sat us near the radiator so we could warm up. This... More

This charming restaurant has two outside eating areas with views of the Dordogne. From the fois gras entree to the salmon filet to the macaron des fruits rouges, all dishes were colourful, beautifully presented and delicious. The recommended wines were equally good. The staff were welcoming and efficient. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of our hotel. It is beautifully located with both an upstairs and downstairs to give as many people as possible a view of the river and woodlands below. Despite the summer rain, the terrace doors were open and we had a lovely table overlooking the river. The food is delightful: you can tell... More

We have just come back from a lovely meal at La Gabarre! It's Michelin standard but without the pretension and expense! You must visit this restaurant its very worth while. The terrace overlooks the Dordogne in a lovely location, the staff were attentive (and spoke great English) and the wine selection complimented the food served. I would highly recommend this... We had two different foie gras to start . The best was the goose one and then we had pigeons which were " to die for " amazing . Atmosphere is very laid back, the young men serving are friendly and efficient . Good address
