Deep in history, Hays House allowed us to go upstairs and look around all the rooms while they were preparing our breakfast. That place is amazing! I loved our service, food and the environment.

We had a very enjoyable meal with quiet music that did not interfere with conversation. My friend had bierock (a German ground beef/onions and seasonings in a bun baked around the filling) and pronounced it as good as any she'd eaten, and had a very nice small bowl of fruit with it. I had fish and chips (chips were made... More

We enjoyed our lunch here as we were driving through Council Grove. The historic building is interesting. The food was quite good and prices were reasonable. We had the skillet fried chicken, a burger and the chicken alfredo and they were all good. Service was a little slow so be patient.

As a lover of history, this locale appealed to me. I was not disappointed. Loved the old building and the stories/memorabilia of it's history that were displayed. Service was good, chicken fried steak meal was very tasty, and the pie was great!!! A pleasant experience that I will repeat if given the opportunity!

A neat historical building for lunch. The food was average, nothing spectacular. The atmosphere was interesting with entertaining pictures. The service alright; not unfriendly, but not friendly. It was during lunch, but not excessively busy. None the less, its fun and entertaining to find meals in historic buildings and locations. A one time event.

The town was crowded following the parade, but Hays House set up their buffet to speed things along. Typical fare, OK but not great, but it was "fast" food in air conditioned comfort. Reserve your dessert when placing your order so you don't miss out!

We had been to the Hay's House several years ago & really enjoyed it. We had relatives visiting from Illinois who had never been in the area so thought we would show them the Flint Hills & Council Grove. Stopped there Father's Day evening. The waitress was really not with it at all and had to ask her for everything.... More

We were hungry, waitress very pleasant, helpful and attentive. Salad bar was fresh. There was an item I could not identify (sight, smell or taste) but I really liked it. Finally asked the waitress. Broccoli stems, marinated in vinegar and sesame oil (probably salt and sugar as well). Waitress said people love them or hate them. I loved them. My... More

I've never had a bad meal here in visiting often. They have a good buffet but I normally order chicken-fried steak or one of their other steaks... Always good! Friendly staff like you would expect in a small town. Don't pass it up!
