Tasty Food and good service!

Enjoyed a late lunch here after a hot morning biking! My husband and I each had the Mediterranean Salad which was very good--was a bit skeptical since seemed like a meat and potatoes kind of place but we both thoroughly enjoyed it! The desserts looked fabulous but we didn't have room after the... read more

I was looking forward to eating in this historical restaurant when we were in Council Grove, but was disappointed. Menu was overpriced for very average food, and there were very few vegetarian options. I asked the waitress if I could get the shrimp pasta dish without the shrimp, which I am sure are just added at the end, and maybe... More

The Groom family Lived in Council Grove for many Decades so we stopped here every time any of us were in Town. Great Fried chicken and Desserts like the Godiva Pie. Beautiful restaurant with 3 levels and lots of space for large groups or private events. Tavern upstairs.

We ate dinner here on a Friday evening with friends. We like to eat upstairs for dinner, but prefer downstairs for lunch. This is an old established restaurant in Council Grove and people in the vicinity are lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber. We enjoyed the excellent Salad Bar; Filet Mignon; Chicken Fried Steak; and Shrimp. All the... More

We had a wonderful homemade "harvest chowder"--chunks of potato, corn, sausage and corn in a spicy cream base. Dessert was homemade peach pie (tough decision because there were several to choose from). The prices are very reasonable. They make most of their bread in house. Service was good.

We were all very happy with our lunches! I had the Black and Blue burger, our nephew had the chicken fried steak and ate every bite which is a rarity for him. My wife had a Turkey club with onion sticks and thoroughly enjoyed those as well. Excellent service and we highly recommend the oldest operating restaurant west of the... More

Deep in history, Hays House allowed us to go upstairs and look around all the rooms while they were preparing our breakfast. That place is amazing! I loved our service, food and the environment.

We had a very enjoyable meal with quiet music that did not interfere with conversation. My friend had bierock (a German ground beef/onions and seasonings in a bun baked around the filling) and pronounced it as good as any she'd eaten, and had a very nice small bowl of fruit with it. I had fish and chips (chips were made... More
