Description: Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that...
Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.

Another satisfying visit.

As a country pub should be, it is full of character inside with different levels and some quieter corners to relax in. Extensive local beer and nice wine offering. Almost too much to choose from, full menu, fish board and specials board! Definitely need to book ahead.

very nice food, lovely surroundings, just a pleasure to have a meal at after a long drive . I was here on business but wouldn't mind returning with my other half for a short break

Excellent choice of food, amilnly local. Pleasant and helpful staff. The restaurant consists of several rooms/areas so eating in different parts gave an extras to the overall experience.

Visited here today for lunch with my husband and entered via the wheelchair access ramp entrance, as I am unable to manage stairs or steep slopes due to breathing and physical challenges. After a bit of calling out a waitress advised us to go up to the bar, as it looked like 2 or 3 flights of stairs I stayed... More

We are a larger group, we chose the Black horse after seeing all the reviews. Initially the restaurant did not want a large group on a sat evening, but they agreed and asked that we pre-order to ease the situation. Well our of the party followed their sat nav and got lost so arrived 30 mins late. But the restaurant... More

A lovely old inn when you go inside it is old beams and hops hanging from the ceiling. the food was very good and quite a good choice, although my husband had the beef duo and said it was not really worth the money as it was quite expensive but ours were nice. they cook all day so you can... More

We were seated in the older style part of the restaurant which we think has more atmosphere than the newer section. We both had plaice cooked in Panko breadcrumbs which was a revelation. It was served with new potatoes and samphire. The apple tartin is really worth waiting for. We had an excellent red wine "Short Mile Bay " Shiraz.... More

I have visited this place many many times over the years (20+) and it was one of my favorites. I've had birthdays here, family meals, romantic dinners, work parties, lunches with friends etc etc. I have noticed a slow decline in the quality of the food but when myself and my partner came for Valentines Day we knew it would...
