Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.

Sunda lunch

Table for 4 for Sunday lunch. Fantastic food great service and full bellies! Dog friendly and lovely surroundings. Definitely worth a visit. Never had a bed meal here and its always on our short list of Kent pubs to visit. Also great for kids.

The last time I was here was for a Christmas Dinner that was absolutely sumptuous. Service was excellent, a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all in attendance. One of the local choir groups was also indulging in their Christmas dinner and festivities and we were treated to gorgeous Christmas caroling right then and there; an experience to behold... I... We visited the Black Horse at the beginning of January for an impromptu lunch. The staff were friendly and efficient, the restaurant and bar area very clean, nice atmosphere and delicious meal (we both had steak). We will be returning.

We came midweek and were pleasantly surprised by our first visit. A classic country pub with a blazing open fire and hops hanging from the ceiling. The meals were excellent and reasonably priced, good portions and served to us by a pleasant waitress who was always smiling. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to anyone in the area. It is a... Have been here a few times in the past and love the atmosphere - lovely food - good service. I seem to remember the menu being more interesting but what we had was good.

A pleasant-looking restaurant and setting for a large party of Sunday lunch-goers. We were well-received, and service for such a large number of people was very good. However, although some of the party were happy with their main meals, the lamb which several of us had was more fat than meat, so inedible and really not very nice at all.... More

I have eaten in the Black Horse many times and as it has always been really good, we decided it would be perfect for our family Christmas meal. Sadly this was not the case. As it was my treat for the family I decided to pay for the full 9 of us prior to the day and called to settle... More
