Description: Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that...
Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.

A stop off on the North Downs Way

I've been coming here for five or six years but had never stayed the night before. The bedrooms are comfortable, clean and spacious. The food was as good as always and the whole stay was very enjoyable.

First time we stayed over and we will return for sure.We had an evening meal, bed & breakfast.Food is superb no complaints at all.Our lodge was spotless & cosy. Breakfast was a disappointing, 1 sausage,1 bacon half a tomato, poached egg no beans. To be honest it looked lost on the plate, tasty but really not worth it.

This is a nice pub restaurant with good food, nice beers and good service. But the lighting in the restaurant makes the place feel a wee bit depressing. The ambience could be so much nicer if this was sorted.

Previously my family had enjoyed our meals at this restaurant but the food and service on our most recent visit was most disappointing.

Average to good food with above average prices. However, the caremelised banana pudding is inedible.... Our main disappointment was the service. Had to order drinks 3 times before we actually got them after half an hour. Had to ask for mustard twice and waited whilst my meal got cold. Ordered puddings which took nearly 25 minutes. They were very poor.... More

Stayed on friday 8 may for one night in the lodge at back of pub. Very clean and tidy. The food in the pub was of excellent quality...main course was wing of skate for the lady and guinea fowl for me which was excellent. The skate was like a steak, full of meat, and the guinea fowl was moist and... More
