Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Absolutely Delicous!

Me and my boyfriend came here Saturday evening just gone and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was lovely, the food was delicious and the staff were great, in particular the lady that served us called Jo was really friendly. Can't wait to come back here again!

Definitely the best carvery we have ever been too. Always 4-5 meats on offer, plus you get an AMAZING home-cooked dessert included in the price! My favourite dessert is the Tom, Dick and Harry (3 different desserts on one plate) and the kids favorite is Dip N Lick - marshmallows, fruit etc with chocolate sauce to dip into! The staff... More

The Blackhorse is known locally as a gastro type of restaurant and have eaten here on a few occasions. The setting itself is lovely but the restaurant is cramped there are too many tables and you feel like you are sitting on top of each other, so much so it's hard to have a conversation as you'll be easily over... This pub is just down the road from where I live and I have to admit I had never visited and after dropping by one evening I am looking forward to returning! I stopped in on the way home with a hungry child and lots of people had recommended it for a good place to eat. I was sat immediately... More

The Black Horse offers good food in a pleasant setting on the Pilgrim's Way between Detling and Hollingbourne. You can also stay there.

They say looks can be deceiving and i would say that's the case with this place from our sole visit. My partner had exchanged a couple of emails with a member of staff prior to our visit and the response and attitude that could be read from it put me off straight away, however my partner wanted to check it... Visited here to celebrate my birthday with the family and we were not disappointed! We started with spome sharing platters of of cold meats, pate and chutneys-devine and a nice touch to share. I followed with ribeye steak and home cut chips- amazing! The chips were crispy but soft in the middle and the steak perfectly cooked to my liking-... More

Having not visited the black horse for a while decided to book for a Sunday roast. Upon arrival was left for ten minutes waiting at the bar to be attended to whilst the member of staff was on the phone so I was late for my table, not a good start. We finally had to seek out a staff member... More

This is a gem of a place, tucked away in the countryside. Great food and ambiance. Can get full best to reserve a table.
