Beautiful historic small town hotel, lovely dining room, friendly staff, and an excellent cheeseburger with a cold beer. What more could a tired traveler want? We stopped here on the way back from a canoe trip and had a wonderful meal in a really cool place.

Good food, low prices, and nice atmosphere. The people are friendly and not in a rush. Nice place to meet friends and have something to eat.

made it to breakfast before the sunday brunch rush, pancakes and bacon were the best restaurant breakfast i'd ever had! there was some long, drawn out waiting, but it wasn't too bad because there wasn't anyone else there when we were.

Your stepping back in time, to a small town hotel. It still has a lunch counter, it still has friendly service, but don't expect "fast". It looks like they have seating for many more people than were there when we were, with a walk in group of 8. Staff that evening looked like maybe 2-3? They were still very friendly.... More

We always like the food at the Franklin, however they never have enough waitresses to take care of the patrons. Service is usually VERY slow and it takes a long time just to get waited on. This in based on many experiences in the restaurant. If you are going without kids and have time to sit, and are very patient,... More

If you would like a little bit of history, the Franklin Hotel is a place for you. The owners have taken great care in restoring the old hotel to its former glory. The food is good down home country cooking with a friendly staff. Take a moment to stop by here for a cup of coffee of freshly made pie.... More

Returning from Dubuque to Ames, my spouse and I took "the scenic route" and drove through Strawberry Point, Iowa. There we decided to lunch at the local historic hotel, the The Franklin. This place has been beautifully kept and restored. An antique brass fixture (originally gas) hung from the dining room ceiling and the room also had some great art... More

We had Doug at the Franklin cater my daughters wedding reception. He was very open to our ideas and very creative in arranging the meal items. We had four tents set up in our yard, one with gourmet crackers and cheeses and vegetables. My daughter had seen vegetables displayed in glass containers of varying sizes and shapes. Doug went with... More

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch and my friendly and helpful server. She was quiet and shy, but super nice. There is a very laid back charming atmosphere from the furnishings to the attitudes. The food was worth the wait, although not a long wait. The menu was quite varied so that it accommodated most tastes. They allowed us to tour... More
