Excellent Restaurant with a great atmosphere

Having visited this pub many times some years ago we went back to see if it was still as good. I am pleased to announce that it's still excellent with the same people running the place. The menu has some unique takes on traditional dishes with generous portions. Beer was also very good as you would... read more

We went here for a Sunday lunch after it had been recommended to us by a friend. We ordered the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding which was a little ordinary. The beef itself was nice enough but the gravy was a bit thin and the helpings of vegetables were not very generous - just all a bit tasteless! The deserts... More

I've rated this pub as 'very good' but feel it doesnt quite reach this but the next rating down is 'average' and its better than that. A lovely interior, nice 'gastro pub' feel, good looking menu, decent beer on draught. The large pot of chips served with the meals was a nice touch, the mains were good but not great... More

Really good food and service, this Pub is a mile from the A64 near to Tadcaster in the village of Colton which is not far from York. Very big menus with lots of choice Ashley the Chef Owner runs a tight ship and has a good reputation. The Bar area is good and has locals whom drink in there/

I was meeting friends at Copmanthorpe and the Sun Inn was recommended to us. Lovely pub with lots of character in the older part and a very well done and in keeping newer extension. Toilets clean (my bug bear when visiting new places) - have never seen hair straighteners in a toilet before! All women impressed! Warm and friendly welcome... More

In aid of Parkinson's UK, Ashley presented an excellent insight into his world of being a professional chef. All information was presented extremely well while giving a live demonstration of some excellent dishes. Covering both vegetarian and meat dishes, we were shown how simple it can be to create an excellent meal with ingredients that are readily available. Some of... More

I have only visited Ye Old Sun Inn on a couple of occasions but each time I have been the food has been delicious. The best thing though is how helpful and friendly the staff are. They were very accommodating as we had a few fussy eaters. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Whilst we are not regulars here we have been a few times now. Staff always provides old well one and service, food was excellent and choice of menu just right. We will be back again very soon. Today the chips were perfection itself. Steak and kidney pie excellent too.

There are many good eating houses in York but the real gems are usually to be found in the surrounding villages. One such gem is the Sun Inn at Colton which is relatively small and certainly very cosy - a real country pub in fact. Furthermore, although not cheap, it does give very good value for money - unlike some... More

We visited Ye Old Sun Inn on the 16 March for lunch to mark our 41st wedding anniversary. We had not been before but from the moment we arrived we could not have been made more welcome. We had advised ahead of time that my wife was gluten free & vegetarian, they immediately provided a choice of meals to suit.... More
