An excellent meal yet again here with service to match. Disappointed to see that the Daily Specials blackboard seems to have disappeared but we still enjoyed our lunch. The toilets were undergoing refurbishment so we could hear some building work though this didn't really bother us as we were seated away from that area. Hope to be back soon

Staying in the village our hosts recommended this pub. Had a super supper there and returned twice more for lunch snacks and dinner during our 4 day stay. Imaginative menu but do not miss the steak pie with suet crust!

I visited this establishment some time ago with my family and, as I was passing, I decided to try it again on my own. The ham hock terrine starter was good although I was a little disappointed with the toast. I remember from my last visit that there was a wonderful selection of home made breads. The toast was a... I have been three times. The first and third visit you could not fault, food and service. I love the bar and front restaurant but not keen on the conservatory, strange decor. The food and service on the second visit was ok, but just not great, locals said it would have been a night when the owners are off, as... More

Lovely village pub on the outskirts of York, just off the A64 at Colton. The food is high end gastro and is of a good standard but is in my opinion overpriced. I would rather pay that little bit more to receive decent food but you can get equally as good and cheaper, in restaurants in the city itself. I... More

We stayed in the Walnut lodge 3.5 years ago and remembered what a lovely pub it was so on returning to York this was our first call. We are a family of 5 so we were put in the newly refurbished Old Barn which is nicely appointed and very comfortable. We had a couple of small teething issues but nothing... More

This pub appears to be mainly about it's food, though there is a small bar area inside and outside seating if the sun shines. We had booked a table using a voucher which gave us £49 to spend and we easily managed to spend it on 2 courses each. Though we could have been more economical if we'd so wished,... More
