This is the best food that you could ever ask for. Niece of the old owner i would say she did a good job by having it up in running. People might not like it, then thats them, if they want fast service then go to Mc Donald's, if you want the best food you have to be patient, they... More

We've heard we had to go here for the tacos...so we gave it a go. We started with a couple of starters and drinks. Obie's has a full bar and offers sodas by the can. The starters are the fried variety from cheese balls to breaded mushrooms with everything in between. Since we were there for tacos, the whole party... More

My family went into Obie's this past weekend on our way home from Dubuque. We heard good things about the tacos so we thought we'd give it a try. The owner's wife took our orders and was VERY unfriendly. When we asked politely for her to turn up the jukebox (the sound was off) that we inserted $5 into, she... More

We were told by some local friends to stop here for some great gourmet Mexican food. We were very excited about the prospect of that experience in the middle of rural Iowa. When we arrived, the place was packed, and we needed to wait for the staff to assemble a table for our group of 9. The staff was helpful... More

We stopped in for a late lunch as the place was recommended by our friends and the docent at the Hurstville Interpretive Center. Perhaps the hype from so many natives set our expectations too high. The Taco shell was greasy and tough. The filling was cooked ground beef ["Maid Rite"/sloppy joe style] shredded lettuce, chopped tomato and a white cheese... More

Obies Taco's are to DIE for! They are not your typical taco, they have a chewy almost pita like shells with your basic topings, served with your choice of hot sauces. It's like fried mexican heaven!! One taco is usually enough for most grown adults, and the appitizers (which we usually order as a side) are amazing! Fried pickle spears,... More

Went there for my sons 13 birthday party waited 1 hour 20 min and then told they were out of meat how do you run out of meat? I guess the meat for tacos takes a long time to get ready must take hours. Was so excited about the reopening now just another disappointment.

Its a big joke now, these people have no clue what Mexican food is. Infact they think a fried tortilla shell is used for every dish...wrong. We ended up going to a country family restaurant there in Maquoketa who actually had a Spanish cook who actually knew what we were talking about...and could cook it. Food is lousy at Obies... More

I moved from Iowa 20+ years ago, but I still go to Obie's every time I'm back in town (about once a year). Is it the fanciest place? No. Is it the most gourmet menu? No. But....do they have incredible food? Yes. Do they have great service? Yes. Do they have a bar and pool table? Yessir! Can you let... More
