I've been here many many times. They had a fire and closed down for a while but reopened a couple of months ago. Nothing had changed (which Is a good thing). Best breakfast menu and available all day unlike the majority of hometown places in iowa city. I've always had good service here. You might have to wait a while... More

Even though I live in the Iowa City area, I had not been to the Hamburg Inn in over 20 years. I came here for a business breakfast and ordered the Reuben omelette. I never order omelettes, but I will order just about anything that's a Reuben, so I had to try it. It was really delicious. The egg part... More

So I go to Hamburg Inn #2 to have breakfast in a chair sat in by a future President... Standard diner menu in an original environment. This place is busy all the time so be prepared to wait a moment for a table. Once seated, anything ordered is cooked correctly and served up hot. Bisquits and gravy always hit the... More

Place has great food and service. On weekend for breakfast expect to wait. Church crowd and the students makes a good size line here.

Hamburg Inn has great breakfast. Lunch and dinner are good as well. The sausage gravy is good, and the hamburgers seem freshly made. A fun atmosphere. It does get crowded so go early on the weekends.

Fun little place not far off campus to eat. I wouldn't say the food is outstanding, but the atmosphere and staff are great! And, it's local. Not a huge place, so plan on a wait if you arrive at prime eating times. Definitely try a shake if nothing else. We had seven in our party and shared the different flavors.... More

We've had burgers here a few times. Juicy and cooked just right. We want to try breakfast next time since that's what others rave about. Large menu. Lots of memorabilia on the wall. Plenty of parking. Bathroom is in the basement. See Renee G's review. Nicely written.

The Hamburg Inn No. 2 was shut down after a fire in the basement. It seemed to take forever to reopen, but I'm happy to say it seems like old times again. I mainly have breakfast at the Hamburg and the quality, taste, and service are as good and friendly as ever. The fire was contained to the basement so... More

We only go for the breakfasts, do not delude yourself into thinking you can eat 3 of their pancakes. Its fun to watch the expression on the folks who order 3 you just know they cannot eat them all. This place is generally very busy.
