Fun little place not far off campus to eat. I wouldn't say the food is outstanding, but the atmosphere and staff are great! And, it's local. Not a huge place, so plan on a wait if you arrive at prime eating times. Definitely try a shake if nothing else. We had seven in our party and shared the different flavors.... More

We've had burgers here a few times. Juicy and cooked just right. We want to try breakfast next time since that's what others rave about. Large menu. Lots of memorabilia on the wall. Plenty of parking. Bathroom is in the basement. See Renee G's review. Nicely written.

The Hamburg Inn No. 2 was shut down after a fire in the basement. It seemed to take forever to reopen, but I'm happy to say it seems like old times again. I mainly have breakfast at the Hamburg and the quality, taste, and service are as good and friendly as ever. The fire was contained to the basement so... More

You will not be disappointed with a breakfast here. Fun atmosphere, great service and wide variety of colorful patrons. Get there early to avoid a wait.

We only go for the breakfasts, do not delude yourself into thinking you can eat 3 of their pancakes. Its fun to watch the expression on the folks who order 3 you just know they cannot eat them all. This place is generally very busy.

I am always craving something from the Hamburg Inn! I can't get enough of their Country Fried Steak but everything there is delicious! You have to try everything on that menu! It's a must! I love their service and staff!

Stopped in before heading out of town and was not disappointed at all. Everyone in the party had different items and everyone was please. The omelette I had was without question one of the best I have ever had. Whenever I am in town again I will make a point to stop here. Get here early though, very limited space,... More

Hamburg Inn is best known as the local dive where all presidential hopefuls hang out when presidential caucus season is approaching. Once things calm down after the hopefuls leave, it's a fun retro spot to get tasty greasy stuff.

This place has been a college hangout that draws the famous and infamous. Politicians have eaten here along with regular Joes. Expect a wait most days but so worth it. The burgers are juicy and the milk shakes are thick. LOVE THIS PLACE.

The place is cramped and the seats aren't particularly comfortable, but you can eat the best burger in Iowa City on the same bench used by Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton (take your pick). If its caucus season, you can vote your presidential preference in the coffee bean poll.
