We just ate breakfast here for the first time and it was awesome! The Machaca and Eggs, the Anne Perez, and the Eggs in Hell were all fantastic. The little kids got the oatmeal pancakes and they were delicious as well. We don't give many five star reviews but this food earned it.

We like this place and intend to go back. They serve as much local food as possible and it is pretty darn good! It is a small place but the two times we went, we had no trouble getting a seat and the service was good. They also have a vegan menu for those interested in that. We've been told... More

El Banditos doesn't have good curb appeal, but once you enter the front door, you are greeted with open arms, very friendly wait staff. I ordered the Green Chile Spicy soup, very flavorful, and a nice spice! My main course was the Cowboy fajitas with homemade chorizo, the ribeye and chorizo blend made the fajitas melt in your mouth!! I... More

I live in California so maybe my expectations are too high but the only real flavor in the cheese enchiladas was from very boring canned enchilada sauce (probably LA Palma). No fresh taste of cilantro, no fresh roasted Chile's, just plain dull. The salsa at the table was equally bland, certainly not home made. Food isn't bad and the service... More

Wow! If you want a Mexican breakfast or just can't wait any longer for a table at Bluebird or Hamburg, you've gotta check this place out. Not much on charm but man the food is great and the bloody Mary's will make you want to renounce your citizenship.

Ok, this place is definitely a little pricey, with prices ranging in the 3-5 dollar range for single tacos. However, the quality of the food and ingredients and overall taste, warrants it, in my opinion. I think if you are looking for chips and salsa and quantity over quality, this is not your type of Mexican place. If you appreciate... More

This is without doubt my favorite restaurant in Iowa City. The food is fresh and a great change of pace from traditional Midwestern fare or fast food style Mexican (both have their place). This is not a great choice if you’re looking for frozen margaritas with endless chips and (cheap) salsa, but an excellent option if you’re looking for well-seasoned... More

A group of six of us stopped in after a football game and the food was just terrible. It was just barely warm and had an after taste that stuck with me for hours. I felt sick after eating. None of us finished our meals. Taco Bell is more authentic Mexican than this place. The staff was more interested hanging... More

We have fallen in love with Banditios, it is our default Tex Mex in Iowa City. Love their green chile sauce. Excellent pozole and a fantastic breakfast joint!

My boyfriend and I went to El Banditos after seeing pretty good ratings online. The host was very genial and was great about getting us seated quickly, but that was pretty much the last good thing about the restaurant. The waiter was not very good at keeping waters refilled, didn't get us chips, and didn't look happy to be there.... More
