Having grown up in the Midwest, I appreciate a good American-Italian restaurant as much as anyone. Baroncini is three steps ahead of all of them, reinforced by a trip to Verona, Italy. Gianluca Baroncini is a native of Verona, was classically trained in Italy, and his background shows. This is pasta made fresh and with love each day. This is... More

Celebrated anniversary dinner here and both my wife and I were disappointed. Poor service, average at best pasta, expensive! Will not be back

I still remember eagerly awaiting the opening of this restaurant several years ago. It was well worth the wait and is a great intimate authentic Italian restaurant in Iowa City. Service is great and very frequently the Italian owner/chef wanders the room to interact with diners. The menu is seasonal and everything is fresh with well balanced tasty flavors. Sometimes... More

We had just celebarated our 50th wedding anniversary as did our friends who live 500+ miles to the east of us. We choose to meet in Iowa City and went to Tripadvisor to find a hotel and restaurant. We choose Baroncini based on the tripavisor rating and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is small with white table cloths and... More

Compliments to the chef! We stopped here for dinner and it was wonderful. The menu has a great selection, there are many great Italian wines to choose from and the food is out of this world. Homemade pasta was delicious but our hands-down favorite dish was the pig cheeks with polenta, asparagus, and caramelized onions - and don't forget desert... More

This is a quaint little restaurant in downtown Iowa City near the campus. You definitely need a reservation due to the size and popularity of this place. We were visiting and booked based on previous Tripadvisor recommendations. Hannah waited on us and she was delightful and very knowledgeable about the food and the wine. We started with a nice Prosecco... More

Baroncini is the place we go to celebrate our birthdays, anniversary and other special occasions. Outstanding service, great wines, excellent food. Great for lunch with girlfriends too! Since we prefer Italian and Mediterranean food, we attended Gianluca's cooking classes and learned so much. Impatiently waiting for next wine and food pairing dinner!

For the price I feel like the food and atmosphere is not there. The food is just ok, too oily and rich. Omg the NOISE! Everyone's voice carries so much it is really distracting. Veal was too fatty along with a dry potato. Desert was the only thing that was worth it...

Wonderful seafood with nice flavors and diverse wine selection to match your plate. Service was good. Atmosphere was nice but spacing with other tables was a little too cozy to allow it to be as romantic as would have liked.

We had an excellent dinner here. Service was very helpful and accommodating. We asked to split the pasta course and the entree. Not only did she agree, but said that was an excellent way to do it. Everything was delicious, but the best was the shells with tomato sauce (very light, not marinara) and veggies. The tuna was very fresh... More
