Sums Iowa Up in One Bite!

Other than being located right in front of the "Old Capital" I love how their menu represents actual small towns IN Iowa. If you a meat eater this is definitely the stop for you; the Thornton is the best route to take with the additional fried egg (believe that they charge you extra, but it's worth... read more

The burgers sound good, but they don't ask you how you want your burger cooked. That is a big warning flag for me. I like mine medium rare, but they would never know. Fries are the bomb. I personally think this place is 95% hype. The burgers really are just a solid meh. Nothing special.

Went here on a campus visit with my son. It was great. Cozy campus atmosphere. Good vibe to the place. Nice looking waitresses. Focused menu... burgers of all sorts and great home made fries. The burgers were fat and juicey. The buns warmed just right. Tip.. sit at the bar to avoid the wait. Even if your kiddo is under... More

Just a warning - weekend evenings can be crowded. But, believe me, it is worth the wait. Our group had the Germantown, Quigley, and El Dorado. No one was disappointed, and no one left hungry. The variety is great. The service was good. The food was excellent. The best burger in town!!!

First time visit and we didn't wait long to be seated. Our order for drinks were taken and were promptly brought to us. We placed our order of a bacon cheeseburger and fries and two of us ordered the Humboldt (chicken sandwich with mushrooms, Swiss cheese and garlic alioi) and then we waited and waited. our lunches were delivered after... Burgers are so good, especially take advantage of the Monday special dinner price. There is a burger with egg and it has so many ingredients (that one is probably the best one) Or the guacamole burger is good

Awesome local brew on tap, enjoyed the Moscow Mule as well. Great burgers for a beer pub. The staff was always very friendly and attentive during our 3 visits to the pub while in Iowa city.

4 adults all ordered burgers. They were all very dry and did not taste good at all. We heard such good things about the burgers at Shorts. Hardee's burgers are better and a fraction of the price you pay at Shorts. Very disappointed.

I've been to Short's many times. Their fun burger topping combinations are worth exploring. However, for a restaurant that does burgers so well I am always amazed at how poor their fries are. Soggy. Limp. Bland. Come on. Crank up the temp in your fryer, try a double fried method, make them to order, or serve them quicker. I'm not... More

When I first heard the name of this burger joint, I wondered about its origin. After visiting, it was obvious from the size and shape of the space and the artifacts displayed so cleverly in shadow boxes, the building formerly housed Shorts' Shoe Shine. This is a bit of a problem in that the space is long and narrow so... More
