Love this place 'cause it sort of has the Starbuck-ish upgrade. It has all sorts of coffee bean blends from cold, hot, espresso, and even non-coffee blends which are just unique, but can't seem to get anywhere else in the city. While visiting the University of Iowa I purchased a pound of some of the best roasted coffee beans ever at The Java House. Excellent!

Local owner has done a wonderful job at 4-5 coffee houses in the area of creating a homey atmosphere where people can meet, get wi-fi, and enjoy a laid back ambience while enjoying a great selection of teas and coffees and pastries at a reasonable price.

The stuff is super friendly, other than that there is nothing excellent. It is just average. The cakes are industrial taste. Coffee is coffee, The space looks like a college cafeteria, Wouldn't go there again...

The Java House is a locally-owned Iowa City institution and brews the best cup of coffee in town, maybe in the entire state. Each cup is brewed individually to order, the baked goods are fresh and made locally each day and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. There are several locations around town. My favorite is the Mormon Trek store... More

Cool coffeehouse with great breakfast option partnered with restaurant next door. Prices reasonable. I go back every time I'm in town.

Yes, this place is home. For Iowa City, Java House is home grown, loved and cherished...and is part of Iowa City culture, landscape, and experience. Java house is part of UI Freshmen orientation. Also, there are no Java Houses in other neighboring cities (Cedar Rapics, Davenport, Etc.) Favorite thing to order? Nutty Caramel Cap(Sugar Daddy)...it is so good!!! Beats StarB@cks... More

I was in Iowa City for a week attending the Iowa Summer Writer's Conference. I searched for a good place to drink a decent mocha. Java House was my favorite of the options I tried (Bluebird Diner was close as was Prairie Lights Book Shop in goodness. The coffee was excellent the four times I had it. I adore a... More

Had lunch while attending a jazz festival related talk. I had a soup and half sandwich with a very good mushroom soup that was flavorful and not thickened and a half rueben sandwich made with pastrami which qwas very good. I was a bit taken back when I was asked if I wanted chicken or pastrami on my "traditional rueben"... More
