Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

Plenty of Options!

I have enjoyed all my trips to Oasis- carry out and dine in. It is a casual place, non-pretentious and has plenty of options (even for vegetarians). Come here for the falafel sandwich and leave with a tub of hummus!

My husband and I just stopped here for the first time. We both had a falafel pita and tabbouleh. The food was delicious! I will be back many many more times!!

My wife and I went to Iowa City for a workshop and were very surprised by the town and its food options. We read that the Oasis Falafel is one of the must-go places, so we decided to give it a shot. These guys make the best falafel, pita and hummus we have ever tried! We were so amazed that... More

Great meal, delight young hippie help and very reasonably price. The whole package is AAA. What more could one ask for?

I had never had falafel or hummus or baba ganoush or anything Mediterranean before trying Oasis. It only took one trip for Oasis to make it to the top of my list for eats in Iowa City. Since my first trip there I have had various falafel and hummus in other places, and Oasis is always my favorite. Everything there... More

I have lunch at Oasis at least once in 2 weeks. I have honestly tasted everything on the menu. For those new I recommend that you start with Baba Ganoush, Hummus, Falafel and Pita bread. Tabbouleh, Mediterranean, Eggplant and chick peas salads are good to try one at every visit. The chicken and lamb kabobs are good but not great.... More

Tried several small plates among our group to try a variety. Portions were really nice, all the food was nicely seasoned and full of flavor. A very enjoyable meal for something totally different for me.

I have been to Oasis several times, and I am not surprised to see it in the top 10 restaurant for in Iowa City. There is a variety of choices for vegetarians and not vegetarians, at a very convenient price. It has the convenience and the down-to-earth of a fast food, with the quality of a diner.

Falafel! Best in the world! Totally authentic and wonderful. Highest quality and great price. I eat there as often as I can manage.

They often cater outdoor events such as music/arts fests in downtown Iowa City. Among all the venders, Oasis Falafel is my preferred choice. Tasty, healthy, easy-to-eat food. I recommend. If I still lived in town, I'd stop by their restaurant more often.
