Description: Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

That's the slogan of this spare but superior eatery. Outstanding hummus is truly fresh and creamy. Outstanding pita sandwiches, salads, and lunch plates, especially the savory kofta dishes. Yum. Now if you could just get those retro bohemians behind the counter to turn down their death metal top ten... First class food. One thing: We have had problems with inaccurate... More

Simple menu - great taste. The Oasis has great falafel (minus the fries and pickles) and the self serve fixings are a great value.

Amazing falafel, freshly made every time. The fries are the best in town. Besides the sides, the pitas and meat entrees are well prepared and delicious. Definitely my go-to spot!

When we are in the mood for falafel sandwiches Oasis Falafel is always our choice. Everything I have tried has been very good. It is a down home place for serious Middle Eastern foodies.

Amazing food and addicting hummus. The falafels, Mediterranean salad, pitas, and hummus are all amazing. Each plate comes with a big serving of delicious food.

Not a dive, but atmosphere is nothing worth mentioning. Some of the best chicken shawarma I've had. Cashier and servers were very polite, were not put-out by having to answer questions.

I came to Oasis twice, with my granddaughter in tow, to order food for takeout. The place is friendly and fast and the food yummy. I look forward to my next visit to Iowa City just to eat this food!

Along with the falafel, hummus, grilled chicken, red cabbage, don't forget to try the soups. Right now tomato cilantro and matzah ball chicken soup is so tasty and filling.

It's hard to find really good falafel, but this restaurant has it. Crisp, flavorful, not greasy, yum.

Got the grilled kebabs--chicken and vegetable, with falafel and Greek salad. Just thinking about it makes me hungry! Hot stuff is hot, fresh, flavorful. Great, flavorful way go get your veggies. More than Worth the modest cost!
