Description: Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

This place is always busy. It's crazy small so if you need to eat-in, be prepared to be stuffed-in. It's a little dumpy but very clean. The deal is a sandwich, a side, and any drink for $7.99 - a great value. I love the falafel with just hummus, on a whole-wheat pita. I hate the other stuff they want... More

This is the place where you can find good falafel. I was impressed the first couple of times I went and I still am impressed. I would argue that Oasis is a little on the pricey side, but the quality is great. If you are in the area this place is definitely worth your money.

I have been to Oasis few times, I usually go on Saturday for dinner. Their falafel are quite good, the hummus is sold in local stores and it's much better than the usual packed ones (but not as good as the one you can make yourself), although a bit on the pricey side. The location is good, a bit hidden... More

The Oasis Falafel restaurant is awesome. They have it all from falafel, of course ,to lamb, gyros, hummus (to die for!), baba ganoush, tabbouleh and soups. If your family or mix of friends is a combo of meat eaters and vegans, this is the place for you!!! (Our family also loves their french fries. ) The place is small, they... More

My wife and I went to Oasis after several years being away. We remembered their tasty and healthy choices, so decided to revisit the place. This is a small restaurant near the Hamburg Inn. You walk in and order off the chalk board menu on the wall. They have all the usual Mediterranean dishes: Shawarma, Pitas, Falafels, Baklava, Greek salads,... More

Good food served in a very small restaurant. Try out their hummus and baba and pita at the local grocery stores and then go there for the falafal and meats and salads.

I was sent here by my host at the A Bella Vista B&B after a very long drive, about 10-11 hours. Along the freeway there is not much decent food for someone who prefers whole foods and loves vegetables. I obnoxiously came in about 10 minutes before closing and they took care of me like I was the first customer... More

We plan our visits to Iowa City around our ability to eat at this place. The falafel is the best I have ever had, as is the baba kanoush and the pita bread. We usually order the lamb kabobs...mmm!
