Description: Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

Oasis is a small, casual, and informal restaurant with good and affordable food. Our meal included hummus, lightly pickled red cabbage, madjadra and maza ball soup. Everything was fresh, tasty, and interesting. If you have not tried falafel, you are offered a free sample. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating, the food is delivered promptly and the cost is... More

Oasis serves up outstanding quality food, made to order at a great price. Falafel are outstanding. But the meat dishes, kafta kebab, chicken and lamb skewers are equally divine. Great quality meats cooked right. The side dishes too are tremendous- hummus, baba ganoush, egg plant salad, Mediterranean salad, and more- all fantastic. The atmosphere is quick serve style, not fancy... More

1st time visitor. This is certainly not a fancy place. And I love that! Right away I enjoyed the casual, close quarters atmosphere. We sat at one of the small tables in the front, but I did see more tables at the rear of the restaurant. I noticed quite a few people pick up food for carry-out. I really liked... More

The falafel here is simply outstanding. Also really enjoyed the chicken shawarma. The pitas were warm and fresh. Definitely a five-star experience for a small, order-at-the-counter, college-town middle eastern joint.

I give this place 5 stars not because it is a fine dining restaurant. Rather, it has counter service and does as much take out as it does dine in. What is great about this place is that the food is really tasty and fresh, and of good quality, and it is very affordable. We eat lunch here once a... More

This place is always busy. It's crazy small so if you need to eat-in, be prepared to be stuffed-in. It's a little dumpy but very clean. The deal is a sandwich, a side, and any drink for $7.99 - a great value. I love the falafel with just hummus, on a whole-wheat pita. I hate the other stuff they want... More

This is the place where you can find good falafel. I was impressed the first couple of times I went and I still am impressed. I would argue that Oasis is a little on the pricey side, but the quality is great. If you are in the area this place is definitely worth your money.

I have been to Oasis few times, I usually go on Saturday for dinner. Their falafel are quite good, the hummus is sold in local stores and it's much better than the usual packed ones (but not as good as the one you can make yourself), although a bit on the pricey side. The location is good, a bit hidden... More

The Oasis Falafel restaurant is awesome. They have it all from falafel, of course ,to lamb, gyros, hummus (to die for!), baba ganoush, tabbouleh and soups. If your family or mix of friends is a combo of meat eaters and vegans, this is the place for you!!! (Our family also loves their french fries. ) The place is small, they... More
