Description: Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

I have been to Oasis few times, I usually go on Saturday for dinner. Their falafel are quite good, the hummus is sold in local stores and it's much better than the usual packed ones (but not as good as the one you can make yourself), although a bit on the pricey side. The location is good, a bit hidden... More

The Oasis Falafel restaurant is awesome. They have it all from falafel, of course ,to lamb, gyros, hummus (to die for!), baba ganoush, tabbouleh and soups. If your family or mix of friends is a combo of meat eaters and vegans, this is the place for you!!! (Our family also loves their french fries. ) The place is small, they... More

My wife and I went to Oasis after several years being away. We remembered their tasty and healthy choices, so decided to revisit the place. This is a small restaurant near the Hamburg Inn. You walk in and order off the chalk board menu on the wall. They have all the usual Mediterranean dishes: Shawarma, Pitas, Falafels, Baklava, Greek salads,... More

Good food served in a very small restaurant. Try out their hummus and baba and pita at the local grocery stores and then go there for the falafal and meats and salads.

Best falafel you can get. Hey had an eggplant salad which was very tasty. Their baklava is to die for.

I was sent here by my host at the A Bella Vista B&B after a very long drive, about 10-11 hours. Along the freeway there is not much decent food for someone who prefers whole foods and loves vegetables. I obnoxiously came in about 10 minutes before closing and they took care of me like I was the first customer... More

We plan our visits to Iowa City around our ability to eat at this place. The falafel is the best I have ever had, as is the baba kanoush and the pita bread. We usually order the lamb kabobs...mmm!

I took a business client to Iowa City for dinner. He is a foodie and told me exactly where he wanted to eat. I had to confess that I did not know anything about Oasis. When we arrived, I realized that I had walked/driven by it many times. Anyway, I was very pleasantly surprised. Great food, friendly counter service. Exactly... More

We get carry out from Oasis every time we're in IC. Hummus is outstanding as is the falafel. Lamb is great but gyro is just so so. Gorge on the hummus.

That's the slogan of this spare but superior eatery. Outstanding hummus is truly fresh and creamy. Outstanding pita sandwiches, salads, and lunch plates, especially the savory kofta dishes. Yum. Now if you could just get those retro bohemians behind the counter to turn down their death metal top ten... First class food. One thing: We have had problems with inaccurate... More
