We often hear about destination dining when we visit cities, but not always destination grocery…although it seems that this might be a current trend in travel as well. For the first-time visitor to Iowa City, the Bread Garden was the best find we encountered besides the Carver Hawkeye Arena and basketball game itself. Connected as it is to the truly... More

It was a busy Saturday night and I just wanted a glass of wine before heading back to my hotel so I stopped here, where I've picked up takeout or snacks in the past. On a warmish January night the glassed in sitting area smelled overwhelmingly of garbage. I couldn't imagine enjoying a glass of wine there, so I grabbed... More

Lots of choices, many helpful employees and had a great breakfast sandwich. Great place to people watch on the campus.

Perfect place to graze around, chill, people watch. The grocery has a fine variety of food. Their soups, sandwiches, snacks, and salads are hearty. The internet though ... went a little wonky with me.

This is the best salad bar I've ever been to. Never expected to find a gem like this in Iowa. Excellent choices both cold and hot. The sesame kale was fabulous.

You pick up a tray and select from a varied buffet, or you can order a sandwich (they have some already-made if you are in a hurry). They are perhaps best known for their breads and soups, but you can get a complete meal if desired. I had some tasty eggplant parmesan on my last visit. Since this is also... More

An extensive choice of food in this grocery store/restaurant combo. You can eat outside and customize your sandwich or salad. A great place for lunch in Iowa City!

We came here for our morning coffee. It opened at 6:30am on Friday and is a great market/cafe/ice cream spot. My coffee was delicious and there is seating in a covered atrium right on the pedestrian mall which can be enjoyed year round. Great spot.

found myself eating practically every meal there at salad bar or hot food bar. Always delicious, varied and reasonably priced. Friendly staff and great place to sit inside and out.

The Bread Garden is a few steps form the Sheraton Hotel and along the ped mall in downtown Iowa City. It is a great place for picking up a few groceries, beer, wine, fresh salads and soups, breads, coffee, smoothies and more. Ample number of tables for eating and chatting.
