Worth the few extra minutes to get there

Between Des Moines, Iowa and the Illinois line there are not a lot of good independent restaurants -- mostly chains. If you're looking for something refreshing, get off at the Grinnell, IA exit and go into town to find this restaurant. Great menu, great food, nice atmosphere. This was our first... read more

Went on an early Tuesday evening when there were few customers. Wait staff was courteous and fast. Very nice accommodations. However, one of my guests had to return his margarita because he disliked its preparation. My guests said their food was fine, but I ordered sirloin tips in mushroom sauce over linguini that was so salty, I couldn't eat it.... More

The Peppertree offers good American-style food and a great bar in an old train depot. It's a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner, but be aware that they can be crowded on a weekend evening.

This was a large group during grad week and the place was slammed. They did their best and the food was good. Nice atmosphere. A bit noisy. Watch out for the super salad!

We randomly chose the Peppertree based on previous reviews. I can't applaud loudly enough the food and service !! A truly amazing dining experience! My only regret is that we live so far away, consequently we can't make our way through the many palatally inviting items on the menu:(

We had a large group but our waiter handled it with no problem. The food was delicious and after dinner we took our drinks out to the fenced-in patio and relaxed around the fire pit. If you're in Grinnell for a college weekend, I would definitely recommend The Peppertree at the Depot!!

The Peppertree served a ton of food -- of which only the steaks were of particular merit. Less good than Prarie Canary, but a good meal nonetheless.

After 11 hours on the road this was a refreshing choice for dinner. A very nice refurbished old depot with friendly service, nice menu and comfortable dining. The steak & pork chop were cooked perfectly, the salad was fresh, cold and as ordered. We will return on our next trip.

Expected menu, beer and wine selections. TVs on. Restaurant sits beside an active RR track crossing that cuts through town.

This is a wonderful hidden jewel in the small city of grinnell. They went out of their way to accommodate what was going to be a very large group, which ended up much smaller and they could not have been more gracious about the change. The menus is wonderful with a variety of everything's from soups, salads burgers, to steaks and... More
