We meet our parents here frequently, as it is 1/2 way between our homes. We have never had a bad meal, in fact, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. We have always had great service in the restaurant. For some reason, the bar service is slow. Twice I was brought a cabernet when I ordered a chardonnay. I think... More

We have eaten here on at least 2 visits to Grinnell and it is our favorite. The food is good, the menu large and the prices reasonable. And you might catch a train rolling by just behind the restaurant. Also a nice wine list.

We have eaten here twice and had great food both times. The sandwiches are served hot with choice of sides and the entrees are varied and well-prepared. The prices are average for what you expect in a "cloth napkin" restaurant in central Iowa. We found the service to be fast and friendly. The real star is the old railroad depot... More

We (my girlfriend, her son and I) have eaten at this restaurant before. The service was horrible then, approximately two hours for three steaks and a couple salads.  Looking around the restaurant was not packed by any means, we thought perhaps a cook or other staff may have called in leaving the staff short handed.  Once our food did arrive,... First, the photos on Trip Advisor are not of this particular The Peppertree restaurant. Lookup The Peppertree at Depot Crossing for an accurate photo of this lovely restaurant. I would have posted it, but I don't own the rights to the photo on line. All five of us really enjoyed our meals. Four had pasta and one had chicken. My... More

We usually go before 6 to have the "early bird" as is it is the right a amount of food. Also, you can get a take out dinner for 4 ( have to agree to the meat, etc.) but it is an excellent value and sometimes, even, leftovers.

Located in a tastefully renovated railroad depot, the Peppertree dining rooms’ large windows provide broad views of passing Union Pacific and Iowa Interstate freight trains. It is a pleasant atmosphere, and the menu is also pleasant: solid, predictable, uncomplicated food with no attempts at experimentation or outlandish embellishment. We both decided on fish that night and consequently ordered a Kendall-Jackson... More

I loved the decor as it was in an old railroad depot, the brick, the photos of old times and some railroad art. And the food was excellent. We happened on this place and a bit early for Saturday which turned out great. They have early bird specials from 5-6 and they are about half price from the regular meals... More

The place has not embraced the wonderful history of this old depot. Lots of large B & W photos on the wall....no dates, captions, or anything about the photos. When I asked for any information about the depot and it's history-they have nothing to offer. Even this website doesn't feature the railroad side of the depot-just the parking lot entrance.... More
