Came here for a quick bite with a client right when Grinnell opened. We were the only table for the first ten minutes and had amazing service. Make sure to try the pork tenderloin sandwich. It is very good. This would be an excellent place for dinner. I plan on coming back to try out the cook yourself steak area... More

Ate here on a hot summer day, right off major east/west freeway. Most places along freeway are truck stops, and this was an oasis. Picked my own delmonico or something small, and cooked it on the indoor grill which was well ventilated. Told waitress was better meal than similiar cooking grill at a waikiki beach restaurant grill. When you first walk into... More

Staying in a hotel close by, I was pleased to find a steakhouse within walking distance. When you walk in, and look to the left it is like an empty warehouse space with tables and chairs, absolutely no character. The bar area is a bit better, but not much. Whoever their interior designer was shouldn't quit their day job. However,... More

Staying in Grinnell for business and decided to give it a shot. Ordered a hamburger and fries. Burger was average at best and fries were pretty ordinary. Prices were very reasonable. Seems like most people were ordering the salad bar. While I was there, no one took advantage of the offer to cook your own steak on their large indoor... More

This is a steak house where a person can have their steak cooked to order, or you can grill it yourself. It has a nice salad bar with soup. The steak - cooked to order was fair, it was kind of tough. It is not presented very elegant, the steak, with French fries piled on top with a piece of... More

Being able to pick out your own cut of meat. season it and cook it your way over a coal pit grill. salad bar and soup included in your order. You'll be hard pressed to find such a nice steakhouse. Also large vehicle parking in the back.

Liked the salad bar. Food was good but a little pricey. Service was good. Like to try the local flair.

We enjoyed a change of pace at the Grinnell Steakhouse on June 30, 2013. The wait staff was friendly and the they have a large grill where you can cook your own steak if you choose. We thought this would be fun and ordered drinks that we sipped while we cooked our Iowa ribeyes. They were delicious. The salad bar... More

We visited this restaurant while in Grinnell for the recent IndyCar race. The clerk at our hotel recommended it. We were a bit surprised a the $3 charge to have our steaks cooked but chose to do that anyway. The salad bar was very good. Had a nice selection. Our steaks were very good. I did have to send my... I've been having steaks in Grinnell for fifty years or so. Old timers like me remember the Longhorn, Bob Globus's upstairs place and a couple of joints on Route 6. There was something very comfy and cozy about them. Booths, a friendly bar scene (after they could sell booze), big baked potatoes and really fine steak. Always a fine salad.... More
