The food was very good and the aura excellent, sitting outside on the "main street". The bar was friendly and comfortable. The service was far too casual, though, and not quite on point.

Very nice restaurant which was actually open on a Sunday night! The food was very good and we had our own little table by the window which was very romantic. We had a coupon for a free dessert. We chose the brownie with ice cream and it was to die for!

It was a Friday night and we didn't have any reservation when we walked in. The hostess told us nothing was available except some tables by the bar or a little alcove with a booth right next to the entrance and bar. We sat there and glad we did. It was very private and quiet. We ate a big lunch... More

This is our favorite spot in Dubuque because it is so versatile. You can go with the family and have pizza for dinner or you can go for date night to enjoy drinks and entrees. The bustling atmosphere is energetic and service is always friendly and attentive. The outdoor tables are lovely on a nice night. Reservations are best for... More

I had a delicious meal here. I had a friendly server who brought out my food quickly. I wasn't a huge fan of the bread/red pepper butter, but I don't really care about the bread anyways because I want to save room for my real meal. It would have been nice if the Millsteam Rootbeer came in a frozen mug... More

Stopped in enroute to an art function, and hosts were pleasant and accommodating for just appetizer's. Owner's were meeting and greeting, always a plus, but excellent food, quality and service. Fantastic local fare and fun in downtown Dubuque.

Celebrated my parent's 70th wedding anniversary and everything was excellent! The food and service was outstanding. Beautiful restoration of an old downtown building. Well done!

We made a reservation ahead of time for a Saturday evening, which I recommend since the place was very crowded. We were celebrating our anniversary so they wrote a cute little note on the paper tablecloth. We ordered the duckling with strawberry basil glaze and sweet potato mash, very tasty. The waitress then brought us a dessert for our anniversary,... More

This is one of the top five restaurant's that we have ever been to. Excellent food, our waitress (Mary Kay) did a super job taking care of us and they did everything possible to make our anniversary, super special. We will visit again when we get back to Dubuque.

I visit Dubuque often, and L.May is by far my favorite restaurant in town, and in Iowa (and probably in the world). I'm not quite a regular, but I go there for a drink or appetizers or dinner probably about once a month. The food, beer, wine and cocktail selection is always great and constantly refreshed, but what I really... More
