L.May ranks with many Chicago restaurants. The dinner selections were unique(e.g. osso buco) and delicious. The wine selection was very nice and not too expensive. I had Napa BV which is a medium priced cabernet. The after dinner bread pudding with icecream was irresistable. Nice venue for our 42nd wedding anniversary.

L. May is certainly one of the best places in town! The atmosphere, service, and of course their food! Never have been disappointed going here. Our server this last time was Cathy, and she did a tremendous job making sure we were happy, satisfied, and had a great anniversary dinner! Thanks!

First learned of L.May Eatery during Food and Wine on the River - what a wonderful gem! Looks like a 'storefront' on Main St. in (old) downtown Dubuque. The menu has something for everyone (the Lobster Cheesecake is divine) and the staff are knowledgeable & helpful - about everything on the menu. Be sure to make reservations if it's the... More

I was part of tour group who ate here for dinner one evening in early October. This is a lovely restaurant with nice ambience and great food. I chose for my meal the trout with cherry sauce, mashed sweet potatoes and vegetable medley. There was also a salad, fresh bread and orange honey butter that came with the meal. It... More

A group of 6 of us went there for the first time to celebrate my birthday. It was a blast! The service was great, and the food was delicious. I have an onion allergy and the staff was very accommodating to my request and assisted in recommending the perfect entree. The Moscow mule cocktail was amazing as well. All the... More

Downtown looks from outside are deceiving. Luckily we had done our homework and glad we did not just drive by. Upscale meal and restaurant with a great atmosphere. Our waiter was very good especially with help on our wine selection by rookies. Meal was great and chef was going from table to table checking with everyone. I know why it... More

Dubuque is lacking in home-grown dining that is elclectic and delicious. L.May does it very well. The atmosphere is upbeat and high energy, though the place is small and crowded like NYC restaurant might be. It works though! This is my top choice for eating out with friends, a date or a Sunday night - ! Two enthused thumbs upupup!!

How can a gourmet restaurant be casual and comfortable, yet offer a unique menu. L.May manages to do just that. As far as I am concerned Dubuque has only four or five quality dining venues. .L.May is on that list..
