My merlot and bread and butter was the best part of my meal. Our waitress was great! The atmosphere was comfortable. The food was not very tasty.

We are transplants from NJ so we are quite picky about our Italian food. To start off, the owner Mario is a good guy, he always greets his customers and appreciates your patronage. There are several things you must try: you must have the Italian salad, it's fresh and crisp and loaded with good stuff (salami, cheese, olives, tomatoes, pepperocinis,... More

All the food at mario's is wonderful ,but the pizza bread with or without cheese is outstanding . It's a must when you are in Dubuque ! You never go away hungry . A real treat is to meet Mario . A great evening with great food .

Found this by accident. Wonderful. Antipasto was real Italian. Entrees took about 45 minutes but we did not mind as we filled up on bread and the antipasto. Kids loved the homemade pasta. Would love to go again but a bit far. Owner stopped by, kissed my daughter's hand(12 years old) and was a class act. How fun!

We pulled up to park and Mario's was right in front of us, so I said, "Let's eat here." I'm so glad we did. The decor looks like it has developed over a couple decades - I loved it. It was clean: I look for spills and dust and cobwebs. I got the sangria that they make themselves and that... More

We heard from a couple of locals that Mario's was "the place" for Italian food in Dubuque. The menu is extensive so we asked our server for suggestions. She recommended the veggie lasagna among other things. I wanted to try their hand tossed pizza and she recommended the sausage & cheese. The lasagna had no taste, the pasta noodles seemed... More

We were a party of 7, 5 adults and 2 children. Our waitress was not nice, reminded me of a nun you wouldn't want to cross at catholic school. She took our orders and never came back to refill water glasses or check on us. Our appetizers came out with the meal we waited an hour to get. My "Jumbo... More

It's like taking a step back in time. The food is really good, especially the red sauce and white sauce. We were told to go back for the pork chop special on Tuesdays but we had already made other plans. I try to eat here at least once every trip and always hope that Mario is there. He is a... More

Stopped in at Mario's twice on two separate trips to Dubuque during May. I ordered the garlic & olive oil spaghetti and was so impressed that I returned two weeks later and ordered the same thing. The owner dropped by the table on one visit and chatted for a moment. I love these local landmark restaurants and Dubuque has lots... More
