This restaurant has great Italian food. It's all hand made and the owners couldn't be any nicer. It's been a Dubuque favorite for many, many years now. Only thing I will say is that it does need a remodel inside. It's like stepping back into a time warp when you walk in. Don't let it turn you off. You won't... More

If you want a nice sit down restaurant that is romantic and has excellent food? Mario's is the place to go. The service is amazing, and the food will speak for itself. Mario, the owner is always around, and be forewarned he will kiss your hand ladies, but he is a kind gentle soul and so is his wife. Everything... More

We visited Mario's a couple of years ago.. omg the Sicilian salad was to absolutely die for, this time it was very wilted and drenched in dressing!!! So when we planned another trip to dubuque we were going to include Mario's... we were so pumped! This trip however was not at all what it was a few years ago.... I... More

This is a restaurant that has flourished in spite of its need to renovate. The food is Italian of course, and the main chef is the owner's wife. The owner greets his guests from his corner spot of the bar. I have had much better Italian food .

Not as good as other Italian places in town but we enjoyed our meal. Service was good. The beer I had was like warm. The fried pizza was tasty

The whole family had converged in Dubuque for a funeral. The local clan raved about this place. It wasn't awful but I have had much better. The décor is dated and everything feels grungy and dirty. The air conditioning was cranked and the wall units were noisy. The pasta was over cooked and the Alfredo sauce tasted like butter, not... More

Overall out of 4 of us no one was happy... First it was freezing and they were not very accomodating to manage the temp. We asked to move to the other room and that was the only option so we did... Beer was warm... Waitress recommended the fried pizza so I had that. It came smothered in flavorless red sauce... More

Looked this place up on TripAdvisor and also looked at it in our AAA guide and it was rated as one of the top places to eat in Dubuque, Iowa. We even stopped down the road and looked for another place on our smartphone because it didn't look so good from the outside. All we did is waste some time... More

My merlot and bread and butter was the best part of my meal. Our waitress was great! The atmosphere was comfortable. The food was not very tasty.

We are transplants from NJ so we are quite picky about our Italian food. To start off, the owner Mario is a good guy, he always greets his customers and appreciates your patronage. There are several things you must try: you must have the Italian salad, it's fresh and crisp and loaded with good stuff (salami, cheese, olives, tomatoes, pepperocinis,... More
