A good place for Italian

Although not what it once was, Marios is still a good option for Italian food in Dubuque. The famous panzzerotti are still worth coming back for. Mario himself is usually to be found wandering around asking patrons about their experience so far. The prices are also very decent.

Everything we had was delicious - sicilian salad, pizza bread and sauce (did not try the cheese version), baked panzerotti, vegetable lasagna, and cavatini. Definitely recommend the salad and pizza bread + sauce (puffy, thin crust pieces with seasoning) as a starter! Great humble, vintage decor - my daughter said it would fit right into her old neighborhood in Chicago.... More

A recent visit to Mario's' restaurant in Dubuque Absolutely (beyond) horrible! My wife and I went to Mario's for the first time in 15 years on a Friday night for dinner. We have spent a lot of time traveling in Italy and Europe and I have to say... this cheap substitute for Italian food just didn't even come CLOSE! It... More

Mario's is our choice for good old fashioned Italian home cooking. His pizza is excellent but there is a lot more to choose from. Salads are very good. We especially enjoy the Sicilian salad served with a side of fresh toasted garlic bread. Or for the bigger eater, Mario serves a wonderful Panzerotti and his veal dishes are wonderful. You... More

Taste of Italian in bold 60's decor, great preparation, quantity reasonable to keep prices down, service good, and you know having the owners stop at your table to talk is always the true showing of a family restaurant. Little high on liquor and wine prices, but food makes up for it. Old school Italian at its best.

Mario was a gracious and welcoming host to our family dinner. He came to our table personally and was a fun and interesting person. Great food and service.

It was St. Patty’s Day and since a friend told me of Mario’s was a must, I had to try it. To my surprise they were serving Corned beef and cabbage at an Italian place?!! I took advantage and tried the Irish dish and I am so happy I did. It was great. I also tried the Panerotti. It was... More

Not fancy. Not modern. Not sophisticated. But you cannot eat any of those. Most times when we walk in for lunch Mario himself is anchoring a stool at the bar. We went yesterday and I had a generous portion of corned beef and cabbage, a day late for the holiday but fresh and delicious. My wife had eggplant parmigiana. These... More

Great home cooked food that is reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Italian food and is hungry!
