The whole family had converged in Dubuque for a funeral. The local clan raved about this place. It wasn't awful but I have had much better. The décor is dated and everything feels grungy and dirty. The air conditioning was cranked and the wall units were noisy. The pasta was over cooked and the Alfredo sauce tasted like butter, not... More

Overall out of 4 of us no one was happy... First it was freezing and they were not very accomodating to manage the temp. We asked to move to the other room and that was the only option so we did... Beer was warm... Waitress recommended the fried pizza so I had that. It came smothered in flavorless red sauce... More

Looked this place up on TripAdvisor and also looked at it in our AAA guide and it was rated as one of the top places to eat in Dubuque, Iowa. We even stopped down the road and looked for another place on our smartphone because it didn't look so good from the outside. All we did is waste some time... More

My merlot and bread and butter was the best part of my meal. Our waitress was great! The atmosphere was comfortable. The food was not very tasty.

We are transplants from NJ so we are quite picky about our Italian food. To start off, the owner Mario is a good guy, he always greets his customers and appreciates your patronage. There are several things you must try: you must have the Italian salad, it's fresh and crisp and loaded with good stuff (salami, cheese, olives, tomatoes, pepperocinis,... More

Found this by accident. Wonderful. Antipasto was real Italian. Entrees took about 45 minutes but we did not mind as we filled up on bread and the antipasto. Kids loved the homemade pasta. Would love to go again but a bit far. Owner stopped by, kissed my daughter's hand(12 years old) and was a class act. How fun!

We pulled up to park and Mario's was right in front of us, so I said, "Let's eat here." I'm so glad we did. The decor looks like it has developed over a couple decades - I loved it. It was clean: I look for spills and dust and cobwebs. I got the sangria that they make themselves and that... More

We heard from a couple of locals that Mario's was "the place" for Italian food in Dubuque. The menu is extensive so we asked our server for suggestions. She recommended the veggie lasagna among other things. I wanted to try their hand tossed pizza and she recommended the sausage & cheese. The lasagna had no taste, the pasta noodles seemed... More

We were a party of 7, 5 adults and 2 children. Our waitress was not nice, reminded me of a nun you wouldn't want to cross at catholic school. She took our orders and never came back to refill water glasses or check on us. Our appetizers came out with the meal we waited an hour to get. My "Jumbo... More
