Best little find in all of Des Moines!

To look at the restaurant from the outside you would say it is either a dive or precious find. It was a precious find. It sort of feels like being in a secret dining room in Chicago back in the mob days as there are no windows. The food, especially the London Broil, is fantastic, however, the... read more

Every year! I love that you get to watch the chef and see his joy in cooking/grilling our food. It's one of those restaurants where you're stuck trying to decide steak, Emberberger, chicken, salad or ribs. Whatever you order, get the house dressing. We always take some home. :)

They have been open for a long time in Des Moines and if you have reasonable expectations you will not be disappointed. I have been there many times for lunch - Monday's have been home made roast beef and gravy on open face white bread and mashed potatoes ... its comfort food with quality meat. There French dip is made... More

What a find -- a reasonably priced steakhouse with great service and tender steaks! There is a special each night of the week. On this Tuesday night it consisted of a 16 oz. rib-eye, potato and salad -- all for $24. For this price (regular menu items were equally fairly priced), they must rely on turn-over of tables so service... More

Pretty good steak place. If you are a Ruth's Chris or Morton's fan, this is not gonna meet your expectations, but the prices are about 1/2 those as well. The staff and owner are wonderful, service was really good and meal was satisfying. I'd recommend this as a mid-price steak house.

My wife and I were visting Des Moines and had read good reviews for Jesse's Embers so we were looking forward to a good meal. My wife ordered the salmon and I had a ribeye steak. Our wait was short before our meals were served. The portions were generous but could have been more flavorful had there been au jus... More

Jesse's Embers has become a Des Moines institution. THE place to go for steaks and burgers. They also do mean salads and Italian dishes as well.

Went there on a Friday night and that was a mistake. It was packed with people and the parking is not the good there. Either on the street if you can find a parking place and there is not much in the back. The food was excellent, I had steak. It was prepared just as I ordered. The service was... More

Great long time steak house/supper club. Excellent steaks and a variety of items on the menu. Their Ember's special sirloin is very good!

Recommended by Loren at the Butler House, we enjoyed a good meal at a fair price. The place was packed and we got the last booth, which is always our choice. I had the salmon oscar, great on the salmon, so so on the oscar. Their wine prices are reasonable and service is down home friendly. Only $70.00 for dinner... More
