Fun place - good food in a unique atmosphere

So I kinda love Drake Diner, but even I am willing to admit it's not quite perfect. This is a fun place to eat good (but probably not great) food in the classic diner setting. You have classics like burgers, sandwiches, meatloaf, breakfast all day, etc., under the friendly glow of pink neon. Diners... read more

The Drake Diner is quaint place to go and get great food. It has a 50's diner feel to it and they serve amazing milk shakes there. The chili is awesome if you like spicy chili. There menu is very well put together. They have outdoor seating and a bar with TV's in that section. If you are looking for... More

This used to be a regular standby in the Drake University area. Our last visit proved that the menu is too big to specialize in consistent, quality food. My old standby for lunch, the Chinese chicken salad, was full of hard white lettuce and was accompanied by a dead breadstick. My companion's salad was worse... wrong dressing and a "manager"... We went here again for breakfast on our way out of Des Moines at the completion of another school year for our daughter. It was definitely nice to be here with fewer crowds, and we enjoyed a relaxed breakfast on the patio on a beautiful day. Service was good and not hurried, and they serve a good amount of food.... Our daughter just graduated from Drake. When visiting her over the past 4 years, we usually stayed at the Holiday Inn Express located right next to the Drake Diner. Hence, we have eaten here many times. The food is average at best, the service is spotty and the food is slightly overpriced. But location, location, location--if you are in the... More

We have eaten at the Drake Diner every time we have dropped our children (three) off at college or picked them up at the end of the school year. Today marked probably the last time we will visit the Diner as our youngest daughter graduated from Drake University yesterday. We celebrated the occasion in many ways, culminating with our lunch... Great location for Drake University and always good if you like to eat breakfast food. If you go on a Sunday, expect a long wait for brunch because of its popularity. Service can be average at times.

Great breakfast menu. Cute decor. A full bar too! Our party had eggs Benedict, homemade corned beef hash, and Santa Fe grits and eggs. Every crumb was consumed!

i love 50s era decor and style and the Drake Diner has it. It's bright in the morning and lighted by neon at night. The place looks large but it's just really narrow and usually a pretty loud atmosphere. The counter/bar seating looks cool. The food is okay, I expected more though. I ate a burger for dinner and it... More
