We tried the Drake Diner for breakfast after reading the reviews of others on Trip Advisor. We are glad we did. The Diner is very clean and modern, and they have an extensive breakfast menu. My wife got potato pancakes. They came 3 on the plate, and each was as big as the plate. They had the best flavor of... More

Although a "diner", the DD gets an excellent rating for value and consistency. Very diverse menu, good food, a strong wait staff, and a very comfortable (and always clean) setting. It can be a busy place in peak times, so we tend to visit for late lunch/early dinner. Have had salads, burgers, blue-plates, etc. and have been satisfied with them... More

Four of us ate at this diner. With tip, the bill was just over $60. The restaurant was full, which is a good sign. We had excellent service, and the sandwiches were very good. I recommend highly the meatloaf sandwich.

Found this diner because it was literally next door to our hotel- the chicken pesto sandwich was excellent, the tenderloin was very good, but the bread pudding was a work of art!! Staff was very friendly, not only to us, but to all other patrons. Highly recommend!

Recently, my husband and I were in Des Moines. We ate at the Drake Diner. It was quite good. I had meatloaf and my husband had roast beef. We ate on the patio. I enjoyed the patio as it is screened in and I didn't get bug bit. The service was attentive. In fact, we decided to go back the... More

We asked about a good diner in Des Moines. We found it in the Drake Diner. The whole experience was great. The food was excellent and the staff was very well trained. Everyone helped each other with food running, refills, and hot food delivery. If you are in Des Moines you have to stop by the Drake Diner for either... More

The building looks like one of the old diners even has a diner style bar with individual stools. We had cajun chicken salads. The size was BIG, the ingredients were plentiful.and fresh . One of us thought the chicken was too spicy and the other thought it was just right. The service was very good. It is worth the visit... More

In my thirties, I grew up eating here as a kid & frequented in high school. Have always enjoyed the food & the atmosphere. The service over the past year has dwindled. We recently had a rude waitress & today a new waitress who was forgetting to refill coffee, serving a wrong order, etc. The new waitress always kept her... More

We always look for local restaurants not too far off the highway when traveling between Kansas and Michigan and we've hit the Drake Diner twice. It's less than 5 minutes off the hwy and does not disappoint. We've done both breakfast and lunch, both were good. Service is quick and it's a big place so we haven't had to wait... More

We went to the Drake Diner for a breakfast gathering with family and friends before the Drake graduation ceremony. We had a small group, and some were there more for socializing, as they had already eaten at their hotel. However, we all wound up having some food, coffee, or other treats. We sat outside in the enclosed patio, as we... More
