I went here with 6 other people and everyone had something different and everyone could not believe how good it was. I mean good! Nice variety and the portions are generous. The wait staff was very nice and well educated on the menu. This place looks like a dive but if you are in Des Moines please stop in you... More

The specialize in dry rub Kansas City barbecue - the story behind their restaurant is on the menu and it is worth reading, but they are great local food people who turned a catering business into a restaurant. Their location is a bit off the beaten path and I would never have found this place if it hadn't been highly... More

Loved the food, ppl, and the fact that it's not a chain and it's got very tasty food. There were ppl coming in, waiting in line and leaving. So, it was very good to see others also appreciate the food, and the atmosphere. The owner also stopped by and spoke with us about his shop and his past experiences....nice guy.... More

The decor, the ambiance, the staff, the drinks and the food all combine to create a memorable experience. The attention to detail from food being lovingly prepared to making customers welcome and comfortable is not lost on anyone in the cozy dining area.

One of the best in town. Locally owned and owner in every night. Food is always outstanding. Menu not huge but they do what they do like pros they are. Smoked items beat all the chain places. Nice quirky place with awesome food. Parking a challenge at times but really worth the hassle. Try the brisket or brisket salad. Some... More

The food at the Flying Mango is superb. The service is wonderful, the atmosphere could use a bit of TLC, but after you eat there, you really don't care! It's a place to take anyone and know that they won't be disappointed!

I was greeted by very friendly staff at Flying Mango right away! Our server, Lynn, was helpful and conversed with us just enough. My friend and I thought there was good selection in the meal and drink menus. We were able to select from the Valentine's day menu so that was a nice treat! The game hen was tender and... More

I ordered the Redneck Surf n Turf, and was not disaapointed. The Cajun catsfish, short slab of smoked ribs, cornbread, and red beans & rice were all perfectly cooked and wonderful. Many review talked about the meat being over cooked, but not this time. The bark was blackened, but the meat was perfect. Can't wait to return.

I love brisket, and this is the best I've had. The small size of the restaurant, combined with being surrounded mostly by residential housing, creates a nice cozy atmosphere for dining as well. Definitely in my top 3 for restaurants in Des Moines.

One of our go-to places for well-prepared interesting food, served in a comfortable as home setting. With a menu including good Cajun and great BBQ, it seems these Flying Mango is on the cutting edge of "fusion" dining. Choices range from small to large, mild to hot, expected to unique. The catfish and brisket are outstanding.
