Great barbecue with great wine/beer list!

Busy, noisy but oh so good! A neighborhood place that has reached beyond to attract many diners. Worth the wait but advise to go early. Meat well smoked and generous portions. Great wine list and beer selections. Go hungry!

Six of us (all seniors) dined at Flying Mango. Our expectations were high and for the most part, we were not disappointed. The service was "spot on" and the portions were ample. Some of us tried the ribs, sausage and several other menu items and found them to be absolutely delicious. Beef brisket is a house "specialty" and it sure... More

We love watching Diners, Drive ins and Dives and when they visited this place it went on our gotta check it out list. They take a limited number of reservations, so if possible call several days ahead of time, otherwise you could wait an hour to get a table. We visited on a Saturday night and it was packed !... We love out time at the Flying Mango. The atmosphere is relaxed, but comfortable. The wait staff are quick and easy to talk to. The food is good. Tip: Go for the earlier settings or some of your favorites may be sold out. So, book ahead, you can do so online or by phone. At least you know they don't carry... More

The Flying Mango doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's cozy and nicely done inside. Not fancy, but nice. Gluten free menu and everything looked so good I ordered 2 entrees and dessert. The fish tacos were fantastic - lightly spiced, complex mole sauce, fresh pineapple on a corn tortilla. Have to try the other 2 flavors next... More

From the outside, the Flying Mango is nothing special. Inside, though, it's a culinary treat — Cajun-style food and barbecue. Our daughter, who lives outside of Des Moines, had been recommending the Flying Mango for a long time and finally bought us a gift certificate for New Year's Eve. The restaurant is very casual, more of a family restaurant than... More

I ordered grilled chicken over pasta, which was good but kind of wished afterward that I had ordered barbecue. As best as I could tell from the aromas on entering the restaurant, the barbecue is probably pretty good. Dining room was a bit crowded but not too noisy, service was good.

We save The Flying Mango for special occasions but have deemed nearly every occasion special just to have an excuse to go here. Best smoked brisket I have ever eaten anywhere. The chef puts a flare in everything from smoked meats to the Mango Shrimp Rundown back to the Jenny Salad. We've sampled most of the menu and have never... More

I have visited this restaurant several times while visiting my family in the Des Moines. Living in Florida and traveling throughout the Southwest United States, I have been to several restaurants that feature a Cajun menu. Des Moines is fortunate to have one of the better restaurants that favor a Cajun cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful. I have... More

We arrived for dinner at 9:20 on a Saturday evening. There was no wait but the place was still busy. I ordered a vodka martini which was excellent. Also ordered the tuna steak with mango sauce. It was cooked perfectly with a pink center and not too well done. The ambience was casual, nice and very comfortable. Our server was... More
