The Flying Mango doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's cozy and nicely done inside. Not fancy, but nice. Gluten free menu and everything looked so good I ordered 2 entrees and dessert. The fish tacos were fantastic - lightly spiced, complex mole sauce, fresh pineapple on a corn tortilla. Have to try the other 2 flavors next... More

From the outside, the Flying Mango is nothing special. Inside, though, it's a culinary treat — Cajun-style food and barbecue. Our daughter, who lives outside of Des Moines, had been recommending the Flying Mango for a long time and finally bought us a gift certificate for New Year's Eve. The restaurant is very casual, more of a family restaurant than... More

I ordered grilled chicken over pasta, which was good but kind of wished afterward that I had ordered barbecue. As best as I could tell from the aromas on entering the restaurant, the barbecue is probably pretty good. Dining room was a bit crowded but not too noisy, service was good.

We save The Flying Mango for special occasions but have deemed nearly every occasion special just to have an excuse to go here. Best smoked brisket I have ever eaten anywhere. The chef puts a flare in everything from smoked meats to the Mango Shrimp Rundown back to the Jenny Salad. We've sampled most of the menu and have never... More

I have visited this restaurant several times while visiting my family in the Des Moines. Living in Florida and traveling throughout the Southwest United States, I have been to several restaurants that feature a Cajun menu. Des Moines is fortunate to have one of the better restaurants that favor a Cajun cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful. I have... More

We arrived for dinner at 9:20 on a Saturday evening. There was no wait but the place was still busy. I ordered a vodka martini which was excellent. Also ordered the tuna steak with mango sauce. It was cooked perfectly with a pink center and not too well done. The ambience was casual, nice and very comfortable. Our server was... More

I really love the smoked chicken here and the brisket. The sides are really good, try the sweet potato cake, or the collard greens. I have never been disappointed in anything I have had here. I think the decor is cozy, inspire of the fact that the restaurant is always full. Arrive at 5:00, or after 8:00 if you do... More

You can't get a bad meal at the Mango, not even a metiocre one for that matter. The briscut is some of the best I've ever had, and I make one of the best briscut's I've ever had. Reasonably priced and always delicious - you can't go wrong.

We called ahead and got on the wait list, which worked perfect for us. Food and beverages were excellent- took the servers suggestion and were not disappointed. Long wait if you weren't on the list on a Friday night. Love the special potatoes! Nice variety of sides, smells wonderful.

The restaurant is a bit quaint but everyone is really nice and the food is delicious. My favorite is the chopped brisket sandwich with slaw. Don't forget to try their cornbread !
