Very, very good food and service. Just shy of excellent.

I took two of my friends here just because I had never been here before and heard a lot about it. We had a very wonderful time. We were promptly seated at our reservation time, which NEVER happens in Des Moines. Good job! Our waiter did not rush us at all, and first took our drink order... read more

This is one the nicest restaurants in Des Moines, and the best seafood restaurant. The main dining area is somewhat formal with a full dinner menu. The Oyster Bar in front is cozy with a great abbreviated menu. Their wine list is extensive. Street parking can be tough at night when there is a show at The Civic Center across... More

We had a quiet dinner for six people and the food, service and atmosphere were outstanding. I was concerned at first as we were seated in the basement in the far corner behind a fish tank and next to the wine cellar. However, the servers made this a special place for our group and our Daughter. The food, wine and... More

My husband and I went to see Pippin at the Des Moines Civic Center. Fantastic show, by the way, if you haven't seen it! We decided to go have a cocktail and appetizer after the show. Splash is located just down the street from the Civic Center so we thought we'd try it. We had never been there before but... More

We periodically come to Splash for an outstanding meal and dining experience. Based on the price point and location, these are our expectations. Our experience this week, with three in our party, was average food, but the same exceptional service and ambiance. We go to a restaurant primarily for the food, in this case, exceptional food. The shrimp/calamari appetizer was... More

Splash is known in Des Moines as one of the best sea-food restaurants. And while the food is "exotic" (lots of unusual items on the menu), and the taste of the food is good, there are other places in town that will give you a good dining experience with good food without the exhorbitant cost. I won't use specifics, but... More

We were in town for a concert. We tried to call ahead for a reservation but they didn't answer the phone. We were limited in time and would have been happy to sit anywhere for a quick snack. The hostess essentially blew us off. I understand they were busy but there was no effort to accommodate or apologize.

Sword dish was excellent as was the risotto and sweet potatoes. Excellent Service; I would definitely return. Large salt water fish tanks add to the decor.

I've dined here many times due to the proximity to the Civic Center. Our experience this week was similar to past experiences: food quality quite good, service mediocre, ambience in need of a freshening, and prices commensurate with finer seafood. The calamari and shrimp starter in a sweet chilli sauce was divine, but we had to wait about five minutes... More

I was recommended this place and I would try it again. But we ordered the lobster and it wasn't very good. I would probably try some of the other fine dining that Des Moines has to offer before going back there.
