My husband took me to 801 Chophouse as a surprise dinner date. I have to admit I was in utter shock and disbelief by the menu prices. Once I semi-recovered from sticker shock, I tentatively ordered some sides while my husband ordered a porterhouse steak for us to share. The steak, gnocchi, carrots, and green beans we ordered were absolutely... More

We went to 801 Chophouse for our anniversary. I was worried the place would be stuffy and pretentious. It was not at all. It had a great and energetic atmosphere. Our server, Paul, was perfect and kept everything at a relaxed but efficient pace. He recommended a red blend wine. It was a bit pricey but one of the best... More

801 Chophouse in Des Moines is a steakhouse in the classic sense - Prime beef, good wines, ala carte sides and the prices that go along with it. The steaks were cooked perfectly, I ordered mine with a Chantrelle mushroom topping that was delicious. Also ordered sauteed spinich and the bleu cheese potatos, which were excellent. Service was good, some... More

Husband and I went there the other night before the Eagles concert. We had what we thought was plenty of time and mentioned our plans to our waitress. Nevertheless, the service was extremely slow. The menu was amazing, prices were on the high side and the food was very good, not great. The heirloom tomato salad was a bit bland... More

Enjoyed our evening here, but expectations of a steak priced at $54.00 was high. Steak was good, but tasted like an ordinary very good cut of steak. No hint of extra seasoning or flavor that I haven't had at other restaurants with great steaks. All the sides were reasonably priced and large enough to share. The to die for item... More

We loved this restaurant...at the time we ate here we were staying at the Marriott Downtown making the location perfect. The interior of this restaurant was beautiful, the service was outstanding and the food was really very very good. I love bone marrow and I recommend this choice at this restaurant... A bit pricey, but expected. Give it a try...

This was our third time to 801 Chop House in Des Moines and the food continues to be very good. The meat is always high quality and the service is good for Des Moines.

Oh, my, one feels like he is dining in a huge city of an historic era! The waiters are most professional, wearing charming uniforms, bringing food on a wooden cart, and making no mistakes. Attention is quiet but 'always there', without being intrusive. The food is properly prepared and presented with simplicity but sophistication. The large room, with its molding,... More

My husband and I dined at 801 last evening. The service was impeccable. Our server knew the menu well and was helpful at the same time she backed away and let us make choices. The entire staff watched to make certain water glasses were full and empty plates cleared away. Our server checked on us without intruding. My steak was... More

Probably the best steak house in Des Moines. The Chop House makes eating steak an experience to remember. Steak aficianados will admire the procedure taken to explain the cuts of beef, pork and lamb offered and their preparation. The 24 oz. Porterhouse was great. The seafood was OK, but again it's Des Moines. My suggestion; go with the meats! ps;... More
