Popped into HOQ for a late lunch about 1 p.m. as a first time customer. I was the only customer so service was excellent. Saw a few things on the menu I wanted to try but finally settled on the gilled cheese sandwich, which said it contained salmon. Well, why not? My server had enticed me with the soup of... More

I had read several articles in the Des Moines Register and in Juice regarding the support of local farmers and vendors for their menu, and online I read that the majority of the menu is gluten-free, so I was eager to try this restaurant. We arrived for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. Being the only customers at that... More

Hoq was a treat, and we are so happy we stumbled upon this restaurant in our searches. The service was great, the drinks were great, the food was great and the ambiance was great. There should be more dining options like this in Des Moines.

We chose HoQ for a late Sunday brunch. I had the corned beef hash and sunny side up eggs. My wife ordered stuffed french toast. The hash was a surprise, being grated potatoes and chunks of corned beef. I'd have expected both to be chunked or minced, not a mix. The eggs were bright yellow and delicious. I believe they... More

The food and service was outstanding. The food was original, portions were decent, and the service was very friendly and quick. Cocktails were great and very interesting as well. Hoq is a must-try!

This is very upscale place serving only the best dishes. Great location and atmosphere and using locally grown vegetables and meats. If you like fresh food prepared in a unique way and gourmet presentation, then this is certainly a MUST visit. The owners are a young couple with great ideas and the staff are professional in every way. Great wine... More

This restaurant is very pricey and the portions are very skimpy. Which we dont understand the cost. Usually buying local is cheeper. I can get fruits and veggies at the farmers market cheaper than hyves. We ordered 2 salads and a chicken noodle soup. The salad portions were unreasonably skimpy and the soup was way too salty. I told the... More

Very nice, bright space. Visited for lunch, soup and a burger. The shrimp bisque was possibly the best I have had anywhere. The lamb burger was good, not great. Bun was too bigbfornthenburger. At first the jalapeño relish was too agressive, but it mellowed. Business was slow, but the service was a touch innatentive.

Great service (Rebecca), great atmosphere, incredible food. Orders the burger and fries. Everything comes from local farmers and you can taste the difference. Will absolutely go back next time in town and highly recommend.
