Lovely meal

I had a lovely dinner here while I was in Des Moines for a business trip. Excellent service and a wonderful menu, though very limited. I had the Panroasted chicken breast became a better person at purée. It was delicious.

We stopped for lunch expecting a pricy, upscale menu. The bar offerings were very pricy but we were pleasantly surprised to find reasonably priced food offerings. Our food orders were well prepared and tasty and the service was excellent.

This New York food snob left Alba very happy. While in Des Moines on business, my group dined at Alba. The food quality was very, very good. Fresh, local selections and a great wine list to match. I had the Pressed Pork Shoulder Confit and chorizo fries and tried some of the stuff that my coworkers were having like the... More

Our group went to Alba on New Year's Eve. The food was very good, but we were very surprised at the prices. The menu they used on New Year's Eve had the 3 course dinners from $65 - $75+ per plate. The atmosphere was nice, and the wait staff was good. The main problem was that the price seemed a... More

Alba is a go-to spot for me when I visit the East Village in Des Moines. This place has an excellent menu featuring a wide selection of different types of meats -- duck, chicken, beef, and fish (I believe). I normally get the duck, cooked medium-rare. It comes along with a risotto-esque accompaniment (which I believe is called succotash). It... More

Brought a group here for a celebration dinner. I think our waitress was a little new or green but the service was good anyway. Interesting and tasty dishes, cocktails and appetizers. We tasted pretty much everything. Wished they warmed their plates as most anything that came to the table was cold shortly after it was received. Steak did have a... More

Alba is easily one of the 2-3 best "fine dining" restaurants in the Des Moines area. It is located in an older building in Des Moines' East Village, yet has a modern vibe about it. The bar area is quite large and makes for a fun place to have a pre-dinner cocktail (or to just stop in for a drink).... More

We went to this restaurant for the first time last week and loved it. The chef is really talented (I toyed with the "g" word...)--not just with flavors but with textures. The vegetarian entree built around squash and a potato rosti was incredibly creative--there must have been eight or ten different ingredients in the dish, making it so the dish... More

We stopped by on a Saturday night at 6:30 for dinner. The place was not packed and no wait, immediate seating. Our waitress was not to up too speed on the beer choices on the menu (no taps, all bottled beer). They had a skatewing on the menu, which she had difficulty describing- we did not think a skatewing was... More

We met up with friends at Abla's. This was our (party of 4) first time here. We made reservations at 5:30 (we were the first to arrive) and our table was waiting. Our waitress was wonderful. She was attentive but not intrusive. The ordered appetizers, soups and entrees. All which were delicious. The squash soup was absolutely wonderful. Everyone in... More
