A gem of a place!

Fabulous little place with great food! Jim McCaffrey and his lovely wife, Brenda, built the restaurant around a wood-fired pizza oven they brought in from Europe, and he makes the best pizza I've experienced in the tri-state area. Valentine's Day. Anticipating a large crowd for dinner, we went for lunch with a friend. Friendly staff. Jim, the owner, greeted us as we arrived. Good service. Quick. Had the shrimp pizza to try something new. It wasn't our favorite, but good to try something different. Friend had caprice sandwich and said it was very good.

Pizza did not disappoint. Drove there at night, while very easy to find, is "in the woods" in a beautiful setting. Most people would never expect to find Iowa's best pizza across a single lane bridge and a stretch of gravel road. Parking was a challenge- lot was a bit too small for the crowd that showed up this Saturday... More

Best atmosphere for a restaurant in NE Iowa with outdoors decor, wood fired pizza, Saturday night outdoor concerts in the summer, with high quality menu. Weekends usually pretty busy, with no reservations accepted, but weeknights not busy at all.The local owners just don't vary their menu near enough is my only complaint, as we would eat here much more often... "Pizza in the Woods", as my Mum calls it is a charming alpine cabin style restaurant tucked near the limestone bluffs of Decorah. The pastas and fish tacos are fantastic, but the wood-fired sour dough pizzas are a family favorite. This family owned restaurant absolutely treats their guests as such. We also love the outdoor family friendly summer concerts.

We happened upon the restaurant by a rack card at the visitors center in Decorah. We were drawn to the wood fired pizza. We had a few challenges finding the initial turn from 52 as the GPS was confused by the under pass. It was worth the search! The restaurant was beautiful! The Christmas decorations were all hung with care.... More

Try and visit the restaurant during the day, so you can views of the woods and hills. It would also help to find the place in the daylight, a tough bit a wayfinding is required. Splendid food and experienced staff make the trek worthwhile though. My only suggestion is a better selection of wine. The house whites were not drinkable.

Where do I start? Well the setting is great...food was average...bathrooms didn't work and they told me to "go" outside. Really not much more to say.

We were on vacation and decided to try out McCaffrey's. The restaurant is in a scenic wooded location .. just follow the winding road off highway 52. I did not notice any strong scent in the restaurant or the restroom that other reviews have mentioned. I thought the women's room was very nice. They provided 2 types of soft soap... More

We were referred here by our hotels front desk. The place was a little hard to find but well worth it. Nice woodland setting near a trout stream. The wood fired pizza is excellent, and the homemade dressings on the salad alone made the trip worthwhile
