River Power still going (relatively) strong

Iowa River Power used to be one of the few decent places to eat when I lived in Iowa City 30 years ago. However, many great restaurants have appeared in Coralville/Iowa City since then. River Power is still the same as it was - a pleasant view of the river, a good, but not great meal, and... read more

We came during the University graduation weekend for the Sunday brunch. It was a buffet with many choices. The food was hot and delicious. We had bottomless mimosas. Service was perfect. The restaurant was charming, located right on the river.

Had their graduation brunch on Saturday, May 16. It was very good but was much higher than I was quoted (maybe Sunday's price?) and it was our understanding it was supposed to include breakfast items, which it didn't. We ate at 2:00 but the person who set it up was pretty clear about what she had been told would be... More

This was one of the best places to get a steak in the late 80's early 90's. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit, it just doesn't live up to its former glory days. The places needs updating, the decor is tired and really hasn't changed much in almost 20 years. Our service was average, and that's kind, since we had... More

It has been years since I've had the opportunity to dine here and decided this was a perfect place for several couples to celebrate Valentine's Day. The service was excellent, the environment just right and we all enjoyed very well made dishes. Was happy to find it as good as I had remembered it and plan to return soon.

I have been there about twice prior, and have had a good meal and service prior. Valentines Day 2015 was no exception. They were busy, and we arrived about 15 minutes ahead of time, and were seated about 5 minutes ahead of our reservation time. We had their Prime Rib special for the night, and it was EXCELLENT. Servers were... More

Parking was tight on a cold Friday night and had a very short wait to be seated. Very nice views of the river. Wait staff was fair, friendly but could have been more attentive. Food was good, my prime rib was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My partners steak was not cooked evenly and was a little tough in spots. Would... More

Great place for steaks and seafood, huge Sunday brunch. Get a table by the window for a view of the Iowa River, in the winter you will likely see bald eagles congregating by the dam. There is a pub (Flannigans) in the same building for more casual dining and drinking. Both are good.

If you are looking for a place to get away and watch the river flowing by, this is a great place. If you are a foodie looking for a spectacular meal, you may be disappointed. The menu has a lot of variety from steaks to fish to pasta, chicken, and duck. We have had several different things there and all... More
