River Power still going (relatively) strong

Iowa River Power used to be one of the few decent places to eat when I lived in Iowa City 30 years ago. However, many great restaurants have appeared in Coralville/Iowa City since then. River Power is still the same as it was - a pleasant view of the river, a good, but not great meal, and... read more

We were all hungry from cycling we could have eaten rubber tires and enjoyed it. Yet all of us found ourselves a little disappointed at the toughness of our steak or the dryness of the salmon. We loved the potatoes and salads. The water was willing to give our group of 16 individual checks. And the bar and restaurant decor... More

Driving though on our way out west, we stopped in for a nice meal in a cool environment. The views and building did not disappoint, but the service was poor. They had several tables but were not busy, but we had to ask for water and the waiter forgot to give us bread. The menu made the bread sound amazing... More

The setting was as good as it gets. The waiter was fun to talk with - I ate alone and will be joining my wife tomorrow. This place specializes in top cuts of beef, which for me is a meal that takes no skill and costs more than the Mexican food down the street,

I stopped here while in the area for business. Mixed feelings. The views were awesome, my waiter was great, the restaurant was almost empty, and the food was just ok. Stuffed mushrooms were pretty good, something about the spinach salad dressing wasn't quite right, the bread was doughy inside, and shrimp entree was ok. Overall I was a bit disappointed.

Menu had dried food on it. Fries tasted like they had been re-heated from lunch or the night before. Overall appearance was somewhat more suited to the college party groups.

Ambiance is superb, the views are excellent, and the staff is top rate. Plus the steaks are the best in the area.

We came during the University graduation weekend for the Sunday brunch. It was a buffet with many choices. The food was hot and delicious. We had bottomless mimosas. Service was perfect. The restaurant was charming, located right on the river.

Had their graduation brunch on Saturday, May 16. It was very good but was much higher than I was quoted (maybe Sunday's price?) and it was our understanding it was supposed to include breakfast items, which it didn't. We ate at 2:00 but the person who set it up was pretty clear about what she had been told would be... More

This was one of the best places to get a steak in the late 80's early 90's. Unfortunately, during our most recent visit, it just doesn't live up to its former glory days. The places needs updating, the decor is tired and really hasn't changed much in almost 20 years. Our service was average, and that's kind, since we had... More
