Once seated in the restaurant, your view changes as the seasons change. Winter brings eagles soaring as they search the icy Mississippi for the fresh catch of the day. In the Summer the river becomes alive with casual and commercial traffic. The historic background of this quaint river town is captured in the memorabilia and pictures that adorn the walls. The restaurant has been a landmark for two decades offering casual to formal dining attracting patrons both local and visiting tourist from other countries. We have a casual family friendly environment. Serving lunch and dinner as well as drinks at the bar. We are great for groups! Walk in or make a reservation and when the weather permits, choose to sit in side or out. Dine in, carry out or we will cater! Whatever the occasion - Big Muddy's is the place!!

Resturrant with a view.

This restaurant was extremely busy the evening we were there, but we had reservations and were seated very quickly. The waitress took our drink orders quickly also. We did have a bit of a wait to place our food order, but nothing too long. Part of our party opted for the buffet while the rest... read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. A few people in the restaurant part. one other table in the bar. 3 or 4 workers? Talking @ the end of the bar. Took about 10 minutes before one of them brought us a menu, said someone would be over to take order. Another 10 minutes ordered drinks and hot fresh chips and... More

The staff is friendly. The food is very average. ..the salad bar is small and nothing special. Honestly for what they charge and the food so average I don't know how they stay in business. Must be the river appeal.

I have gone there 3 times trying to give them the benefit of doubt when it comes to horrible service as my kids like the close proximity to the river and great views. Each time the service has gotten progressively worse . We waited for over an hour for simple hamburgers, soup and salad. When the food came it was... More

This restaurant was extremely busy the evening we were there, but we had reservations and were seated very quickly. The waitress took our drink orders quickly also. Whenever in Burlington we eat at Big Muddy's. A historic building with great windows overlooking the Mississippi. The menu is fantastic. We especially suggest the frog legs, among the best served anywhere. Great soup and salad bar. We had fast attentive service. Good beer selection.

It's been years since my last visit. I hadn't been back because the food on their buffet was not hot. Then my wife brought home a $20 coupon from her place of work and convinced me we should try Big Muddy's again. At 5 p.m. on a slow Wednesday, we were seated, given menus and the hostess walked off. Twenty... More

This is truly a local land mark on the banks of the Mississippi river. The owners have endured much hardship to keep this place going considering how often "old muddy" stops in---literally stops in. The food is great and while the service left a little to be desired on this visit, normally the service is also very good. We come... More

Big Muddy's is not fine dining, but the salad bar, entree buffet and the reasonably priced yet well-prepared entrees make this a reliable meal option in Burlington. Waitresses are friendly and helpful. As a bonus, you are literally next to the Mississippi River. The 19th Century building is listed on the Register of Historic Places. Warm weather affords outdoor dining... More

I stopped in here while visiting family in southeast Iowa. I had heard of this place before, and even driven by it, but this was my first visit. The establishment is is large, but sectioned off so there is a nice atmosphere. The only caution is that the building is both old and has been repeatedly flooded (it is right... More
