Today we had lunch at Carmela's. The lasagna was the best I have ever had. It was so light and delicious. The salads were very good and the amounts of everything was just right. Lovely lunch and will definitely return.

This was our second time here, but the first was over 4 years ago. We were there with a large group (22 people), so they split us up onto two tables. The service was excellent, servers were very knowledgable, particularly about their extensive wine list. We also split the check(s) up several ways, but everybody;s bill was correct, and they... We enjoyed a wonderful family date night dinner there before attending a show at the SB Civic Theatre. The waiter was very polite and brought out a "split" entrée on 2 different plates without being asked (love that!) Interior was clean, uncluttered and charming. Enjoyed our meal all the way through dessert. The very full bread basket was a hit... More

Lets just say, they fired our server while we were having dinner!!! She came and announced that she would no longer be working there after that evening. When we first walked in we had to wait, place had about 3 tables, they sat us next to the kitchen bathroom isle, I asked if we could be back in the corner... More

The food is decent, but it is no better than Fazzoli's. Most of the food tasted freezer burned, definetly not home made. The atmosphere is above average though.

My husband and I met some dear friends at this restaurant and had a great time because of the service, the food, and the atmosphere. We'd recommend this place to anyone who likes good food and a lovely atmosphere.

Very unoriginal and typical menu that seemed to be trapped in the 80's. The dining room over reaches in multiple ways and makes for a cramped and tacky faux Italian environment. Heard ridiculous music coming from the kitchen multiple times. The pasta was over cooked. Raviolis tasted freezer burnt and the "homemade" marinara was watery and tasted cheap. There is... More

Carmela's is a little jewel on the east side of downtown South Bend. It is family-owned, and this family has operated a fantastic bakery/Italian grocery, now located in the restaurant, for decades in SB. The food is authentic and outstanding, the staff is great, and the prices are fair. It's a wonderful place for a romantic couples night out. South... More

We had dinner here twice after exciting football games at ND. The food and service was excellent.i am very picky when it comes to Italian food. The osso buco and involtini were excellent. The arancini are outstanding and as good as any I have had. The wines are very reasonably priced. I would recommend Carmela's Cabernet Sauvignon. Unfortunately I didn't... More
