Nice, but expensive spot in South Bend

Nice dinner. We all had fish entrees which were well prepared. Service was a little anxious--took my salad plate before I was finished!

The food and service here are quite good. However, when there's a Notre Dame game in town, it becomes a sports bar, with lots of drinking, yelling and cheering at the TV above the bar. The raucous behavior resonates throughout the restaurant. Fine dining goes out the window. I've learned to go elsewhere on those nights. Too bad the owner... More

Food was good. I had 2 salads: Navarre and kale. For the price, both were lighter than I expected on trimmings [green apple, bleu cheese, walnuts on one, goat cheese and beets on the other]. Essentially I had a plate of mixed greens and one of kale, with a few add-ons. We were there early in the week, and the... More

Sat outside during a perfect summer evening. There were about four other occupied tables, but the interior was pretty empty, and the streets were deserted. The service was good, and the food was tasty. Had the kale salad and pork shank. The former was a bit light on the beets for my taste. The shank was HEARTY. Probably better suited... More

My wife and I had a gift certificate for this visit. While the food was good, the menu was limited. Our server did a nice job; but for the price, not certain about this spot as a regular on our "nice dinner out" nights

We went to Cafe Navarre for dinner on a Thursday evening before going to a show at the Morris Civic. We had a reservation so we were sat quickly. They were fairly busy and any drinks from the bar took quite a while. I had the Navarre salad. It was pretty basic and small but fresh. I also ordered the... More

Have had occasion to eat lunch here numerous times. It's been a wonderful meal, each time. Wait staff is attentive without being invasive; responsive in a timely way; and very courteous. Breads served with the meal are just right: crisp crusts, fragrant, a real plus to the dining. I wouldn't hesitate bringing anybody to this venue.

We had a nice late lunch at Cafe Navarre. Not wanting something heavy, we ordered salads. They were fresh and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The restaurant is right downtown in a refurbished bank building. Many of the architectural details have been restored and enhanced, adding to the charm of the interior. The service was good and very friendly. We'll... More

A very nice modern restaurant. Our server was adequate. The food was alright. I found it odd how some tables were offered bread/butter whereas others were not and some water glasses came with lemon slices others did not. We were not offered either so I requested lemon slices. One person in our party had seared salmon with green beans and... More

Dining at Cafe Navarre makes you feel like you are in Chicago or New York. It has a big city feel with the warmth of South Bend. The food is always exceptional, the bar is our favorite watering hole and the service is outstanding. And don't overlook the Dessert Menu!
