I shouldn't have expected much since we are in the Midwest (I'm used to delicious Mexican food in Texas). The margaritas are made from a mix (eww) and the enchiladas were a little better than Taco Bell. The chips and salsa were tasty (spicy!), the beans were good, and the atmosphere was cute. The staff was very friendly.

The interior of La Esperanza is not at all fancy (even nondescript), the staff is fast & friendly, & the chile rellenos are very good. A cut above most "authentic Mexican food" joints but not extraordinary.

The mexican food is good (don´t fill up with the chips). Try the enchilada with agua de horchata (rice water- does not sound as good as it is). This is a very friendly place. They have Spanish cable, so if you ever need a soccer game (champions league, any FIFA tournament), and do not know where to watch, this is... More

Great Mexican food at a reasonable price in South Bend, IN. Close to Notre Dame. Great staff that was quick to respond to our needs and the food was served quickly. Everyone in the group was extremely pleased with the appearance and taste of the food that they ordered. Get there early to beat the lunchtime rush.

La Esperanza is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is very good (I don't like the pork meals). The wait staff is friendly and helpful. Nice family owned restaurant.

I've been here a couple of times. Food was good every time. Service was average. Prices are reasonable. My preferred dishes: Tacos de asada Gorditas de rajas con queso Reviewer from Jalisco, Mexico.

Love the fish tacos - light and citrus-y. I have not had a bad dish here. The nice thing is that is you want to try several different things you can order a la carte and still end up with a reasonably priced meal. Excellent service.

Huge menu, very friendly service and overall good food. Don't think they have a liquor license, but do have beer and wine. They did have Dos Equis amber on tap which was excellent. The carnitas were very good, and the accompanying salsa and corn tortillas delicious. Recommended.

This is an authentic Mexican restaurant that is very close to the University of Notre Dame. The service is great and so is the food. Very authentic. My husband is a big fan of the carnitas, and I like the fajitas. For some reason, I've never tried any drinks here, but I do know they're available. If you're visiting Notre... More

I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but I think of the food at La Esperanza as "home cooked" Mexican. Everything was fresh and delicious. The staff is patient with the undecisive and always ready with a smile. I like a restaurant at which children are made welcome, and La Esperanza gave me the impression that they like families. Great... More
