When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

Valentine's Day Package

My husband and I decided to celebrate our first Valentine's Day as a married couple by doing the Valentine's Day package advertised on WFRN. The package included a candle-lit lunch or dinner, a ticket to Bluegate theatre, a rose, and a carriage ride. My husband and I got the family style lunch and... read more

The Blue Gate restaurant serves Amish home style cooking that you can have order individually or have served family style. All the food is terrific, but we especially like the meatloaf with extra glaze on the side and the broasted chicken (I choose all white meat). The sampler platter is another excellent choice and can be split between two. Just... More

The food here was very good. Do not like the way you have to go to the podium and wait for several minutes while people are asking about the dinner theater.

Had the chicken dinner. Perfectly done. Very moist, and all home style cooked in an Amish environment. Love the homemade k Loaf of bread and the famous Amish peanut butter. That stuff is the best.

A large group of stitchers meets every fall in Shipshewana for a retreat and one of those evenings we have a group dinner at the Blue Gate. More food than you can imagine, and the best fried chicken ever. Service like no where else and a grand selection of pie for dessert. They have such unusual gifts to purchase, a... More

Everything is home cooked and very good. Love the Fried Chicken. Its the Best. For anyone with a large appetitie you can order family style and eat till your full. Desert comes with the family style and you can take that home (because you'll be to full to eat it)

We just got home yesterday and our experience with the bakery was and has been in the past just absolutely wonderful. Their maple fudge was soft and delicious. We bought pumpkin bars that my husband who doesn't like icing, even ate the mouthwatering icing. They have this brownie type item called something about, something you can't put down, and it's... This is our favorite restaurant. We stop here every time we travel through Indiana. Great home style cooked food with generous portions.
