When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

Stopped in for dinner before a concert. There was a wait; the restaurant was very crowded. There are not that many restaurants in Shipshewana, so initially you think, "Well, there aren't that many restaurants here, so, of course, it is crowded." Well, that's not the reason. It's crowded because the food is delicious. We were a bit pressed for time... More

Those serving us were very polite and well mannered young people. The food was good and well prepared. The pies, candies, jellies, and syrup looked delicious however no room after the meal. The price was right for the portions and quality.

I'm very interested by the Amish culture so took a trip down to Shipshewana for the day so by the time we arrived there it was lunch time. I got some sort of mustard chicken which was nice but average, the amish people aren't really into flavours so it was pretty bland. The restaurant is old fashioned and quite expensive... More

We had a family get-together and this was one of our favorite spots! The chicken and potatoes were fabulous and desserts were super! The atmosphere was perfect and we definitely plan to go back...three times are just not enough!!

Yum, yum is the only words I can think of! I had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. The chicken was like granny used to make and very moist. The mashed potatoes were real! The corn was a bit chewy so I wouldn't order that again. Great sweet tea and a killer chocolate cake with gouache. Oh my goodness!!
