When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

Great home cooking

My family ate at the Blue Gate on April 24th. This is the 4th time eating at the Blue Gate and as always the food was great. If you are looking for food that tastes "home cooked" then this is the place for you. Can't give it 5 stars because our waitress was rather slow, we have had other... read more

Huge restaurant with plenty of porch area to sit in a rocker and just enjoy the day. The food was great and plentiful. Food can be ordered family style, but since there were just two of us, we decided to order separate orders. The food came quickly, and there was plenty of it (enough for two meals}. While the place... More

This is a marvelous restaurant! We went 3 different times, we would talk about trying another restaurant, but we would always go back here. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we chose something different each time. We had 3 different servers, they were all excellent! This was a great experience!

We have been to this restaurant many times over the years and we were deeply disappointed this time. We stayed two evenings in Shipshewana and ventured out to try other restaurants after our poor experience. There are much better restaurants in the area. The first evening was fine. The service was a little poor, but the food was average. The... More

We tried some of the fruit pies and they were really good. The service was attentive and friendly. although I have a strict regime on carb intake, my wife loved the pastries.

I have been to LaGrange, IN. several times as our grandma lives in Howe. We stopped today at this little gem, and weren't disappointed. we have tried several restaurants around town, and by far for dinner, this is the best!! Next time we are in the area from Vbva. We will be back!!

Nice and quiet place. Good for lunch/comfort good , they also serve a breakfast buffet which ends at 11. We arrived at 11:02 so we missed the breakfast ! Lunch was so so but the peanut butter marshmallow cream is to die for !!!!! I would recommend it just for that !! other than that the service is good too... More

Excellent service, and delicious food. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Prices are a little high. Check out the bakery. Lots of bake goods and they are amazing.

The food was fresh and good. The service was poor. Not enough servers employed. Had to wait for refills and had to ask multiple times for several items due to the waiter forgetting from being overwhelmed with too many tables. The cod dinner and fried chicken is very good. Plenty of deserts for eat in ot take out!

Great service and atmosphere, and awesome food! We've been here twice, and both times were great, and we did the family style dinner. It was a reasonable value for our family, and the pies for dessert were awesome!
