When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

enjoyable way to end a weekend road trip

Quality and quantity was great. Service and efficiency was wonderful. The pies are a nice homemade touch. We ate at the menu dining rooms and was a good choice. Would return.

We had the chicken dinner last time, but we think we enjoyed the buffet better. More selection, but includes the same great food.

We had lunch at the Blue Gate and had some of the best chicken that I have had in a long time. The whole meal was very good and very reasonably priced. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel special. Great wait staff!

Have eaten here numerous times, with the latest being last month. Husband and I ordered off their menu. He ordered the 4 piece chicken dinner (asked for dark meat), while I ordered the meat loaf. Please be aware that they also offer a "family style" meal, which involves them bringing dishes to your table. Unfortunately you are NOT allowed to... More

The Blue Gate has recently opened a Buffet in the downstairs of the restaurant. They have a wonderful salad bar, dessert bar as well as a large main course area. The food was excellent, service was good & the price was very reasonable. We will definitely visit the Blue Gate next time we are in Shipshewana.

Our last supper before hitting the road in the morning. Had the family style and it was excellent. Had the meatloaf and fried chicken.

We had a larger group and they accommodated us easily. The service was good. The bakery had items that we could not resist and I can tell all was good.

The Blue Gate Restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. I had not done any research on eating places in Shipshewana so we just drove into town and spotted this jewel. It is landscaped with a stream and flowers leading to the entry. Very nice building inside and out. We chose to dine "family style" which was all we could eat... More
