As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

Fried chicken - yum! We waited for quite awhile on a busy Saturday to be seated in this huge restaurant. It was worth it. Two of us had the fried chicken, one had a soup/sandwich combo and the other had meatloaf. The meatloaf was 'okay', but not exceptional, but that's one of those things that involves personal preference. The rest... More

The chicken is highly rated and will not let you down. Also had the mashed potatoes and carrots. The meal was perfect. No shortage of portions here. We ate during a crowded time and the staff did a great job keeping the lines moving. The wait was short.

Chicken is very good, but sides are run of the mill food service variety. Baked good from the bakery are all fresh and very good.

This is our favorite restaurant in Shipshewana. Our trip there is not complete without visiting the Blue Gate. Great family style chicken dinner, and of course the delicious pie! I had coconut cream. Love the nice smiling faces too.

Paid for the all you can eat family style dinner and it was great. There was so much food that we almost didn't have room for dessert. The only complaint was that the meat was a little too salty. But the pie they serve is Amazing. I wish I could've tried every flavor of pie because the two I did... More

I just saw an earlier review where someone said the portions were small. We bought tickets for the all you could eat, family style dinner, as past of a package with the Texas Tenors and ate there last night. We were over-faced at how much food they brought us. It seemed like and awful waste as you cannot take leftovers... More
