When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

Wasn't sure about this

We ended up here, because it was raining and we were hungry. We didn't want to wander around looking for a place to eat. Because it was pretty crowded, we chose the buffet on the lower level. The iced tea was very good! I like tea that has tea flavor. The salad bar was very good. Lots of options... read more

We ate dinner here twice. The first time we had the buffet downstairs. There was a large variety of food and everything we tried was good. The second night we ate in the upstairs dining room. The staff was attentive and very helpful. We enjoyed the food and portions were large enough that we had enough to bring home for... More

Reasonable price on all you can eat buffet. Awesome fried chicken and many options for salad, main course and dessert. The Bakery has great goods to take home, too!

We actually ate here twice in three days. The first day, we ate at the ground floor restaurant. It is a full serve restaurant where you have many choices for food and two ways to get it. One way (we chose) is the regular by-the-meal choice. Excellent service, very good food and plenty of it. In fact, I could only... More

At this restaurant you have a choice of family style meals or ordering from the menu. This time we chose to order from the menu and still had more than enough food. It is very good -- real mashed potatoes, homemade noodles, tender meats, and delicious pies!! Recommended!

The food was so-called home cooking like fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Not much ambiance but the staff was super friendly and it was good value for money. No alcohol!

The food was pretty good, but not outstanding. Price was fairly reasonable for a tourist restaurant. Service was excellent. Venue was clean and nicely decorated. We would return if in Shipshewana again.
