Ate here for breakfast and supper as we were staying in the hotel. Food was good and plentiful. We were seated right away and our waitresses were attentive.

This place having four stars calls into question every review of Shipshewana establishments. Do you enjoy cafeterias with fluorescent lighting? Are you unable to tell the difference between canned food and fresh or powdered potatoes vs the real thing? Would you eat pie from a gas station? If yes, then this is the place for you! The hype for the place is high however food was average and pricey for what you got. My chicken and noodles was $11 and it was more like chicken noodle soup.

First time trying the buffet (always had family style in the past). Great selection, and still get the great basics that made you want to go in the first place. I would highly recommend the buffet.

Arrived on a Tuesday at 6PM, had to wait 15 minutes for a table wich is ok if restaurant is full but it was not, far from. Decided to go for the buffé. Hlf was empty since there was not enough guests. The other half ok. Overcooked beef, broasted chicken that aktually was fried and dry, excellent mashed potatoes and... More

Amazing place which also has its own shop and bakery . The restaurant was overwhelmingly large opted for the buffet dinner at $12.99 which was supposedly home cooking. The chicken was listed as broasted but was in fact fried. There was indeed plenty of hot food and a salad bar but it was just another buffet. Nothing special or worth... More

We always make sure to find a reason to get to Das Essenhaus. A family favorite since we were kids. Now at 30 I still make sure to stop. The food is so great.

We did some shopping, attended a banquet, and attended a car show. Great food. We went to the bakery later in the evening, and they were sold out of most everything. This was ok, it showed us that they provide fresh items daily.

I have driven miles in anticipation of eating at this restaurant a few times. In my estimation, this is one of the best places in Indiana to eat (definitely top 20). This visit was the first time I had the buffet. Always before we have chosen the family style dining. There is great volume of food to be had here... More

The Das Essenhaus is a mid west tradition. My parents from the east cost insisted on going any time they came out to the mid west..The fresh broasted chicken, breads,Veggies,Pies are all excellent. This place holds 750 people and is run with extreme perfection. The Millers know what their doing and it shows through out the operation. The adjacent bakery is hard to pass...
