If you eat chicken then your good. I don't so it was a little difficult to find vegetarian dish that I could order. Settled on vegetable plate, was ok but just steamed veggies. Service in main dining (menu not buffet) was very good. Overall an experience that should be tried at least once. Restaurant amid an Amish shopping mall. Have... More

I have lived near Essenhaus almost all my life and have gone there frequently. It is well known attraction with beautiful buildings, businesses, and countryside surrounding it. Bus loads come here on their way to Shipshewana auctions and flea markets. It is a very popular place. The bakery, gift shop and other shops are very well kept, and inviting. I... More

I am from Hawaii, and I was visiting Indiana for a wedding. My boyfriend's family took us here a couple of days after the wedding, and the food was amazing! It was so fresh and rich in flavors. The staff is so polite. A week in Indiana, including coming to this place, made me want to move to Indiana next... More

Came her with parents for lunch. It's the 2nd time we have been. The food was really good. The rolls were yummy. Apple butter was good and Amish peanut butter. I had the chicken pot pie. It was super. My wife had the chicken and noodles also very good. I had the peanut butter chocolate pie which was amazing The... More

I love Essenhaus, from the home cooked fried chicken, mashed potatoes, noodles to the pies & whoopsie pies in the bakery! The long & winding hallway is covered with wonderful, inexpensive gifts. If you can fit in a visit in warm weather wander to the other stores on the property. If you really want adventure, go to a cruise in... More

This is a large family run business in Northern Indiana. Lots of shopping and crafts available. But this review is on the food. Now, if you like home made Broasted Chicken, then you need to stop here. Even if you have to drive 50 miles out of your way, the chicken and the food is THAT good. Ask for Vanessa... More

We have been in Middlebury area for two days. We ate at the Essebhaus both days. The first nite we had the off the menu dinner. Portions are a nice size and we ate off the 'lighter side' where portions are smaller. Today we had buffet. Both experiences were delicious. Pies are great. Love the roast beef, breasted chicken, noodles,... More

We had the buffet at lunch on a Saturday. The said breakfast was still out. It was crusted and old in the psn. Lunch was good and hot. Service is slow. Had to find another server to find our server to order pie. For $3.50 a slice, the pie was not fresh and nothing fantastic as others reviewed. Restaurant and... More

We have been to Das Essenhaus a few times and I think I like family style dining the best. You can also eat at the buffet or order off the menu. The noodles are probably my favorite. The old fashioned cream pie is phenomenal!

We visited the Essenhaus while visiting the area. It was packed but I don't see the attraction. Hubby and I had the buffet- it was mass produced and mediocre at best. The pie was OK but I've had better.
