We had the buffet at lunch on a Saturday. The said breakfast was still out. It was crusted and old in the psn. Lunch was good and hot. Service is slow. Had to find another server to find our server to order pie. For $3.50 a slice, the pie was not fresh and nothing fantastic as others reviewed. Restaurant and... More

We have been to Das Essenhaus a few times and I think I like family style dining the best. You can also eat at the buffet or order off the menu. The noodles are probably my favorite. The old fashioned cream pie is phenomenal!

We visited the Essenhaus while visiting the area. It was packed but I don't see the attraction. Hubby and I had the buffet- it was mass produced and mediocre at best. The pie was OK but I've had better.

Das Dutchman Essenhaus is in the heart of Amish country in northern Indiana. It provides a picturesque setting for dining in an area settled by the Germans. The food is down-home, good old-fashioned country cooking. Menu had many choices. Prices were reasonable. I had the chicken pot pie which was excellent. One other in the party rated the noodles as... The Das Dutchman Essenhaus used to be the place to go in the Indiana Amish area...I was there this past summer, and their food was good, but their landscaping and grounds is just not like what it used to be...I would rather go to the Blue Gate in Shipshewana...

The food at the Essenhaus is very good. It is plain fare but there is plenty of it. Especially if you order family style. The staff is very attentive and will take good care of you. Make sure that you leave room for desert! That is the best part of eating at the Essenhaus. All of the food is good,... More

Traveling on business you really do not know what is in the area, but we were lucky to have a gentleman that was familiar with the Middlebury area and knew a great place to get baked goods. YUMMY....not the cookie cutter type bakeries, but the old fashion, great bakery items, and of course, the girls wanted to try the restaurant... More

Somehow I had expected this to be more like the Lancaster Pa Amish Buffets with 4 kinds of meat, lots of vegetables and sides and wonderful desserts. Only meat was chicken, and the only dessert was a brownie pudding. Salad bar fine. Would have rather paid more money and had more choices. Building was beautiful, service pleasant. Upstairs restrooms had... More

Stopped by for dinner after a day at Shipshewana. About 10 minute drive ..we went on a recommendation from friends. We chose the buffet which was a bit disappointing given the hype we had heard .. pretty standard stuff for a modest price of $12.99 each. Best choice for me was the baked steak .. least favorite was the fried... More
