Sunday Dinner at Grandma's

I have stopped at the Essenhaus bakery for years and brought home pies: Peach, Rhubarb Custard, Shoofly, the possibilities are endless. They also have great cheese, breads, cookies and other goods. Finally I stopped in here to have a (late) lunch. There were only 2 of us so we went with the... read more

Nothing special here. Here with a large group and had the buffet. We were directed through the largest alley of tourist trap trinkets that I have seen in a while. Once we sat down and got our drinks, I looked forward to the buffet. Meat and potatoes and some salads. Nothing special. And they basically had no dessert,, so that... More

This used to be a awesome place to go , we went last night and the food was cold and burned . Peach pie was nasty jelly in a pie crust full of sugar . Sauasage dinner burned and beef Manhattan barely warm and had been sitting . It took over a half hour to get food . Now I... More

If you want a meal like you would be served at Grandma's house, Das Dutchman Essenhaus is the place to go. The meal was fantastic. We had the buffet, and then added pie to our meal. There were so many choices, and everyone ate until they were uncomfortable, as the food was excellent. I highly recommend finishing the meal with... More

Used to be very good food. Was there a few months ago and it was awful. Chicken was dried out, fake mashed potatoes. Went back giving them a second chance. It is still awful. Will not go back. Used to be a favorite. They got cheap and cut corners.

The complex can be overwhelming. There are seating options for 1100 people. So, if you see a lot of cars don't be overwhelmed. There are three dining options to choose from. There is a family style meal where you have choices and bowls are brought to your table. I agree with others that it has been out priced for many.... More

There are probably a zillion review for this eatery, which also features an extensive gift shop. The food is amazing if you like home cooking like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, roast beef, green beans cooked with bacon, stuffing, gravy, and a staggering array of homemade pies... This is NOT a place to go if you are "dieting". The restaurant is... More

We have been coming to Das Essenhaus for many years. Long before it was remodeled and renovated! At least 20 years and more! Have always had the best chicken dinners and wonderful service. Food is excellent, staff is friendly, and always visit the bakery for yummy desserts and breads. We come back every year and have never been disappointed. Always... More

Where else can I go to get Lima Beans? I love the buttered Lima beans here! The buffet is definitely the best value when visiting. Being somewhat of a regular (instead of visiting or passing through) I wish there was a bit more variety. Don't recall seeing ham cycled into the mix at the buffet? The salad bar has a... More

We had the evening dinner . They have a varied items on their salad bar. On the heated side of the bar had chicken, fish and roast beef . There was also mac and cheese , mashed potatoes, baked beans , boiled cabbage. For dessert there was pudding and a angel food cake with cherry pie filling and whipped cream... More
