Dinner on the next to last day of our vacation was as at Carlson’s Drive Inn - TripAdvisor’s number 6 (out of 120) and recommended by RoadFood.com as well. They still have carhops (but not on roller skates - like Rudy's in La Crosse, Wisconsin). Rather than eat in our vehicle we chose to sit at one of the picnic... More

It's an old drive-in - it's been around since 1947. The service was prompt and friendly - definitely try the fried veggies - it's a great combination of cauliflower and mushrooms and zucchini and onion rings - perfectly fried and crunchy and good. The Chicago dog was good, but would've been tastier had it been grilled. The pork tenderloin sandwich... More

I ordered a hot dog and battered cauliflower. I would rate them both 'better than average'. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The drive in restaurant was fun, and something different than a take out window. Recommend!

Chili dogs and root beer to die for. I've been going for over 30 years and nothing changes. Cheap good food and great service. Love it.

Neat little root beer stand with a good junk menu...hot dogs, ham and cheese, etc., that provides one with a fix of fat. I'd go back again anytime.

After a long day at Warren Dunes we stopped in Michigan City to try a drive-in called Carlson's. It was a great choice. I had the chili cheese dog and the sauce was great. My husband tried the Chicago style dog and he said it was the best he has ever tried. Our grandsons ( 6 yrs and 5 yrs)... More

Carlson's Drive In was very nice. My kids had never been to a drive in so this was a new experience for them. The menu consisted of numerous types of hot dogs, fries, onion rings, BBQ, grilled cheese, etc.. They brew their own root beer both regular and diet as well as make their own pulled pork. The hot dogs... More

This is nice place to go for a reasonble priced meal in Michigan City. Or just cold glass of Carlson's Root Beer. It's not to far from the outlet mallor Blue Chip Casino so on your next Visit to Michigan City or on your way to or from Chicago, plan on visiting Carlson's
