Maxines is a block or two away from the outlet mall. We stopped by for an early dinner and found the place almost empty. The waitress was a bit flustered -- it was her first day -- but put forth a great effort and got the orders correct. Portions were nicely sized. Service was prompt and attentive. Definitely worth a... More

A very diverse menu, reasonably priced, great wine selection. The servers and bartenders are very well educated on their menu. The atmosphere is quaint. Always a fun time. I'll be back!

We took the South Shore Rail to Michigan City and were walking to the Light House Mall. We walked into Maxine's and were rather skeptical because the place was empty and it was about 12:45. We sat down ordered and thought that the food was great and reasonably prices. The restaurant I might add had three more tables filled by... More

We happened upon this restaurant while on our way to Blue Chip Casino. Walked in on a Friday evening and despite not having reservations, we were able to be seated. We had the Chicken Satay as an appetizer and it was delicious. I had the Firehouse Chicken sandwich and it was wonderful. Chicken with pepper jack cheese and jalapeno jelly... More

Great food prepared well but the drinks are watered down and done with very cheap booze. Try the scallops....umm, umm, good.

Some things were very good - the gnocchi poutine, escargot, crab cakes, prime rib, mussels and the very best Tiramisu we've ever had. Some things were lacking - the service started out very strong for our group of 15 and then our waiter seemed to fall apart and couldn't remember who wanted what, didn't bring bread for everyone, how many... We've always enjoyed the meals here but unfortunately the service leaves much to be desired. We were pressured to order because "the kitchen is closing" and then I had to ask the server if our salads were going to come before our entrees. Our my salmon was fine but the vegetables were barely warm.

Our service was great. The interior of this cozy restaurant provides a pleasant atmosphere - reminiscent of dining in Europe. The live piano music added to the ambience. We visited here at 6:30 on a Sat eve without reservations. It wasn't crowded and there was no wait. As the evening passed the tables filled. I ordered the vegetable polenta platter... More
