The Downtowner was recommeded by several local people in Madison, and I can see why. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. It is a very affordable, quality restaurant....thank God!

This restaurant is pretty much just average. Not the first place on my list, but not the last place. They have a decent variety of food choices, but it's nothing to write home about. Where the "great" comes in, though, is in their deserts. They sell cakes by the slice. OMG some of those are awesome. The service, could be... More

Will find another place to eat the next time we are in Madison. The waitress was friendly and courteous. This place served like a take out restaurant (Styrofoam cups, etc). The pasta salad had so much dressing that was all a person could taste. The roast beef sandwich was stringy and dried out.

We went for Sunday lunch and it wasn't too busy after 1pm. Sat right down and ordered. We ordered the mixed vegetable with chicken soup (12oz), the BLT, and chicken pesto speciality sandwich. The soup was way too much for one person so we split it. The soup was very hot and creamy. Excellent soup!!!! Both sandwiches were very good.... More

We stopped in to the Downtowner at the recommendation of someone in town. We sat at a booth and were welcomed within a few minutes. She took our drink order (ice teas), and walked away. It took about 5 minutes to get our drinks - a little slow for a restaurant that had 4-5 tables seated (at 1pm). We ordered... More

This place was a great bargain on tasty diner food. It makes no pretense to fancy, but delivers up hearty, inexpensive meals. Will definitely go back.

I've eaten at the Downtowner twice now...it's a lunch place and very casual, mostly sandwiches, salads and soup. This time, my wife had the Chef's salad...she couldn't finish it...and I had a "trio;" sandwich, soup and a side. My choices were the tomato florentine soup, ham and cheese sandwich and garlic/cheese bread. More than sufficient for lunch; fresh, tasty and... More

We stopped here for lunch with friends because the shop owners in the area, sent us. The food was all very good but it took forever & it was very crowded, & very small. I can't say that the staff were very friendly. We came in & they would not even make eye contact to acknowledge that we were even... More
