Perhaps the best German restaurant in the U.S.

I ate here on August 20th for dinner. Had an excellent sauerbraten that reminded me of my years living in Monchengladbach. I have eaten at many a German restaurant in the states and this was probably the best (I am sure there are a few elsewhere in the Midwest that could also be great). I am... read more

Lived in Germany five years and 2d child born there. The Schnitzelbank is for real! Cusine is delicious and the atmosphere is authentic. Try an Asbach (Brandy) and coke after dinner. Loved the gift shop, many items are like the ones we got in Germany. We travel 218 miles to eat there, this was our third visit.

Classic "busy" German restaurant atmosphere. Excellent salad bar. Fantastic entrees... even some for my gluten-free wife. Friendly and attentive staff. My teenage daughters loved it. We were on our way back home to Indianapolis after a day at Patoka Lake, and this really hit the spot. It was well worth the detour. Dress is casual to "business casual".

My family and I recently celebrated a family birthday here. It was great! All the food was delicious and so was the service. We all were very impressed by the huge beer menu, too.

We were down in Santa Claus and decided to make the drive to Jasper after reading the reviews for this gem. We were so happy we did! The food was excellent! We started with the wonderful salad bar which included wonderful toppings, excellent soups and even delicious desserts! We then went on to the main courses. The wait person was... More

Unusually for a German restaurant I had fantastic fried chicken livers. The other 3 members of our party ordered from the German side of the menu and loved every bite. You can still get good sweet tea here. The salad bar is sparse on veggies, but fully stocked on freshly made salads like cole slaw, jello salad, potato salads, cornbread... More

We ate here because it was next door to the Hampton Inn where we were staying. We were not disappointed! Great German food, especially the schnitzel!

Travelingmomma, Thank you so much for the great review. We appreciate all the nice comments. Sorry you missed the buffet too. You will just have to try and catch it next year. We do it every year during our towns fest which is always the first weekend in August. Thanks again and safe travels. More

We were lucky enough to go when there was a festival going on, so there was an All you can Eat Buffet as well as the sumptuous salad bar with soups. Sooo much good food, reasonably priced and the opportunity to try some of all of it! Be sure to try the fried biscuits (taste like donuts) with homemade applebutter!... More

Was staying at West Baden when heard of German Restaurant Schnitzelbank. So we made the short drive and was glad we did. Don't think you could get more German even if you were in Germany. If you go there, make sure you are hungry. I had the salad bar and the "Worst Platter". Both were outstanding, salad bar so many... More
