Old family style and fantastic food

The best food around in a family meal setting. They bring your food out in beautiful dishes and you pass the bowls around for each person to partake. Free refills on everything.

My husband (now deceased) and I had visited this remarkable stalwart about 40 years ago, and I had somewhat forgotten about it until today. A friend and I were looking for a nice place to dine before a later event and the "Iron Skillet" mysteriously came to mind. Not knowing if those years would have taken a toll, as it... More

I wish it was located close to my house!! It is wonderful dine in or carryout. Its like a step to a gentler era. It offers class without being pretentious. It feels like you are sitting down for a Sunday dinner with your whole family in your own home but minus all the work. I have been eating hear since... More

I believe The Iron Skillet has had the same menu for years. They serve wedges of lettuce, pickled beets, cottage cheese, rolls, apple butter, corn, string beans, and mashed potatoes and several. choices of meats or fish. Appetizers were either tomato juice or onion soup. The onion soup was good. For dessert they have vanilla ice cream with several choices... More

We had our closest friends from out of town for our son's wedding and she really wanted some "Indiana fried chicken". Honestly, not my fave meal but I really wanted to treat them well since they'd come so far (AZ). It was one of the most odd dining experiences ever. The place was fairly deserted; there was only one other... More

Met an associate at the Iron Skillet for a lunch meeting. I had been here before with a group for dinner some years ago and had not been back since. After experiencing the lunch, I was reminded about how good this place was and still is. Not as widely known in the city as some other stops, but it provides... More

My family has been eating at the Iron Skillet for over 40 years. There family style chicken dinners cannot be beat. The chicken is fried in iron skillets (hence the name) and they have this process down to a fine art. Add in the geenbeans, corn, biscuits and gravy and you are in culinary bliss.

Our family gets together for dinner the 3rd Sunday of the month. In March we decided to meet at Iron Skillet for dinner. We received excellent service. The 30 minute wait for the fried chicken was worth it. The meals are served family style which was a new experience for my 5 grandchildren.

The Iron Skillet is known for their Fried Chicken. It is the best I have ever had. Tender, with just a light breading. The service is family style, you start out sharing bowls of beets, salads, and cottage cheese. They bring baskets of yummy biscuits (they are smaller, so everyone can indulge without blowing their calorie budgets), and have ample... More
