A good lunch

Met an associate at the Iron Skillet for a lunch meeting. I had been here before with a group for dinner some years ago and had not been back since. After experiencing the lunch, I was reminded about how good this place was and still is. Not as widely known in the city as some other stops, but... read more

My family has been eating at the Iron Skillet for over 40 years. There family style chicken dinners cannot be beat. The chicken is fried in iron skillets (hence the name) and they have this process down to a fine art. Add in the geenbeans, corn, biscuits and gravy and you are in culinary bliss.

Our family gets together for dinner the 3rd Sunday of the month. In March we decided to meet at Iron Skillet for dinner. We received excellent service. The 30 minute wait for the fried chicken was worth it. The meals are served family style which was a new experience for my 5 grandchildren.

The Iron Skillet is known for their Fried Chicken. It is the best I have ever had. Tender, with just a light breading. The service is family style, you start out sharing bowls of beets, salads, and cottage cheese. They bring baskets of yummy biscuits (they are smaller, so everyone can indulge without blowing their calorie budgets), and have ample... More

I have been here countless times, and everytime is wonderful. I have never had a bad experience here, either as a couple, or with a group. The only complaint I have and the reason for the four star rating is due to the anniversary dinner we planned for our parents. There was construction all around, and I wish the restaurant... More

We first read about this restaurant in a book about classic Indiana restaurants. This place comes highly recommended. So we were excited to visit it and try it for ourselves. The atmosphere is very good. Sitting on a busy corner perched high on a hill overlooking the Coffin Golf Course, this place has interesting views. The building it is located... More

Since the mid-1950s, this terrific restaurant has been serving delicious family-style suppers. Located in one of Indianapolis' oldest mansions, the ambience is great too. My favorite is the fried chicken. Call ahead for reservations and to tell them if you want the chicken, so they can work on the extra time needed to make it for you. Great steaks, shrimp,... More

A restaurant that has been around seems like forever serving family style food and reknown for the chicken Plenty of parking available. Excellent wait staff with the owner, Ron Torr, usually on premises. Wonderful deserts too. Overall, a great evening of dining out.

I had dinner there last night. The food was very good. Very large portions. They first brought out a lettuce wedge with vinegarette, pickled beets, and a bowl of cottage cheese. Then a bowl of onion soup. It was all good. The food is made to order, so it takes a bit for the entre to arrive. I ordered fried... More
