The most outstanding steakhouse in Indianapolis!!!

The restaurant has been around since 1902, and the atmosphere is supremely excellent! I highly recommend the famous jumbo shrimp cocktail along with the nostril opening horse radish sauce. You most certainly will have clear sinuses after ingesting such an exquisite delight! For desert, try the... read more

If you are looking for a great, flavorful steak, this is the place to go! St. Elmo's Steakhouse has been in downtown Indianapolis since 1902 and has proven itself as THE place to go for good service and great steaks. The menu was very helpful in choosing how to order your steak as well as a variety of steaks to... More

We have been hearing about St. Elmo's for decades from friends, especially their famous shrimp cocktail. Pluses: Glen (our amazing waiter), the quality of the seafood, and, the cocktails. Not-so-pluses: my husband's filet was not really seasoned and given there are *so many* high end steak houses, this one just seemed a tad disappointing for the price point. The shrimp... More

I'd been here 10 years ago, and it was just as wonderful as ever. Rather pricey, but well worth it. The service is very good, and the steak is phenomenal. The wine selection by the glass is excellent also. Of course, the must-have is the shrimp cocktail.

Stopped by while traveling alone and had a great time in the lounge. It was really busy even for a Tuesday night but the service was great - especially Matt at the bar! He recommended the root beer pork belly and it was AMAZING. Definitely something to try! Get it with an Elmo's Coke (you'll only need one) and you've... More

My husband & I came to Indianapolis for a long weekend, from Ohio, & a few of my coworkers mentioned this "Famous" steakhouse. We did some research, read some reviews, & we decided to make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday evening. I made the reservation on line, probably 10-12 days before the trip, & they had very few... More

Took advantage of the three course offer and had the shrimp cocktail (be warned the sauce will bring tears to your eyes); the steak (a beautiful cut of meat and mashed potatoes to die for; and the chocolate desert. What adds to the experience is the massive wine list where you will definitely find a great wine. Service was friendly... More

On our way back to Chicago following our month-long trip to Washington, D.C., Virginia, South Carolina and West Virginia, my wife and I decided to stop for an early dinner at St. Elmo Steak House in Indianapolis, Indiana. We've drive through and around Indianapolis over the year but never spent any time in the city. On this day, upon learning... More

In Indy on business. Did not want to go to national chain like Mortons or Ruth's. locals recommended st. Elmo's. lots of character and charm. Known for spicy shrimp cocktail. Do not get this if you cannot handle the horseradish. Had a ribeye. It was great. Extensive wine list. If in downtown Indy, go here.
