Wonderful food, comfortable setting

The best restaurant meal we've had all year. Greg cooks the way we like to eat: fresh, local food cooked simply and perfectly. Servings sizes were just right. The star of the show the evening we were there was the salmon with wild shrimp corn and Israeli cous cous with a corn jus. We ordered the... read more

We close this restaurant for our anniversary dinner on the advice of a foodie friend. My wife is not much of a foodie, so this was a little risky. Recess changes the menu every day so no need to really go into what we were served. However, the four course menu, prix fixe, was varied, interesting, and very tasty. My... More

Greg Hardesty always has been a Master, Here he is inventive, creative and just plain good. We look at the menu and if we like two out of three courses we go, why because he usualy converts us to his interpretation of the ingredient we are not crazy aboout. Always Knowleddgable staff, just a great place!

My wife and I had dinner here recently and while we both enjoyed our meals, we weren't completely wowed by the service or the food. The first dish we had was, in my opinion the most inventive and the best dish. It was lemon thyme fried chicken with mixed greens. Very good. After that was a tasty but somewhat u... More

When you drive to Recess, you don't think you're in the right neighborhood for fine dining, but there it is - in a little strip center! Recess serves set menus, so if you're a picky eater, it might not be for you. If you're up for some incredible cuisine, though, you must go! Beautifully presented by terrific staff. The food... An unassuming location and interior decorating (with uncomfortable plastic chairs) serves amazing and innovative dishes right here in a family neighborhood in Indy. The meal of the day is the creation of Chef Greg Hardesty who will prepare a meal from locally sourced (when possible) items. It is a gastronomic adventure, just like when you visit a friend who prepares... More

Like going home to Mom's every night only Mom is a gourmet chef. Menu changes daily and if you don't like what's on the menu then you'll be hungry. Chances are that if you are a foodie, you'll like what's on the menu. The chef is an institution in Indy!

Of course that is a personal opinion but that's what you want, isn't it? Is it expensive? That depends on your budget and other dining experiences. $60 for a beautiful four course dinner is inexpensive by many standards- don't try finding that value in NYC or London or maybe even Chicago. We felt that the 'wine by the bottle' was... More

A few days ago we attended a friend's birthday dinner at Recess with five other couples. We occupied a private room and were served a remarkable five course prix fixe dinner with wine pairings. The wine choices were excellent. Service was impressive and friendly. This is thankfully not a stuffy, formal establishment - it's fun! The menu changes nightly with... More
