I actually saw this restaurant on trip advisor. It was the last stop before returning home. The wait was about 20mins. There was very little sitting or standing room while you waited, not really a big deal to me. The place isn't huge, the capacity sign was for 140. And it seemed they are used to accommodating larger parties, There... More

I have eaten at Maxine's several times and have not been disappointed. My favorite inexpensive item is the $6 chicken wing and choice of waffle, which I usually pick, if I can, a sweet potato or strawberry. The food is tasty, and can be, in my opinion, a little pricey if you don't go for a special and want to... More

I was so surprised to find good soul food all the way north in Indianapolis but Maxine did deliver. Their sweet tea, fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles, everything is so excellent! What I especially love is that Maxine tops almost every dish with their own peach butter spread. It is so good that I wish they sold it to... More

The decision to eat here was a good one. They have an Appetizer called Chicken Fries?....Its amazing!....Fried Chicken was good. I thought the waffles were just ok. I expected a little more there. Prices are a bit high, but it is a cool place and we loved that Maxines family runs the restaurant in her honor. Apparently to not discourage... More

On a quick weekend trip to Indy, we decided to eat at Maxine's for lunch after reading some of the reviews on here. We weren't disappointed. Our service was excellent. Liz was our waitress, and she couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. My kids really enjoyed the complimentary little cornbread pancakes, and peach butter. I couldn't even get my... More

I used to love this place. Went there often, specifically for their sweet potato waffle, biscuits and gravy, and even those little corn cakes with peach butter they bring out before your meal. Went over the weekend. Sweet potato waffles are gone, they were out of biscuits and gravy and a few other items, and I watched all the tables... More

Decided to give this place a try. The interior is very sparse with concrete floors and not much decoration. The workers were efficient, but not over the top. Had to request cornbread, but it was amazing. The chicken wings were amazing and the waffles were light and fluffy. Would love to try some of the sides next time.

We visited Maxine's for the second time on New Year's Day. I was a bit nervous when we arrived. I told the hostess that I made a reservation (made the reservation at least 1 week in advance). She could not find my name anywhere... but brought be right to a table anyway. I was glad for that because there were... More

Landed here with out of town guests....since I am new to Indy, thought it would be fun. We arrived 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday evening, we could not have been welcomed more warmly! We were not rushed...as I am vegetarian, I was a bit concerned, would there be anything for me? Well I ordered the sides...collard greens, black... More
