I have been to the Gerst Bavarian Haus several times over the past ten year, and my last visit was just as good as all of the others. The place is very comfortable, the wait-staff is very attentive and friendly, the food seems very authentic Bavarian, and the extensive beer selection is this beer drinker's dream. The folks at the... More

The Gerst Haus is an old Evansville tradition, with lots to look at in the restaurant. Features a large, draught beer selection. I do love the red cabbage side dish! However, I was disappointed in my food selection, possibly because I was not able to spend a lot of time studying the menu due to a very chatty dinner companion.... More

Went yesterday at lunch, Saturday. They were not busy. Got Ruben and it was good as usual, but German fries. It w as if they had just cut up a potato and fried it. No onion, no taste. The cook needs to go up to Hilltop and take lessons. Had them in the past and they were good, not this... More

My wife split an order of sauerbraten as the portion was too big for one, especially after an appetizer of kraut balls. Both were excellent! The choices of beer are extensive, but I love their frosty fishbowls of Gerst dark beer. I try not to miss the Friday clam chowder or the Sunday Bloody Mary Special.

German, through and through! So many beers on tap - they have their own menu. Historical building was a hardware store and brewery

I have never been a fan of German food as it is too bland for me. We went there on a business trip to Evansville. Last time we ate at Smitty's across the street but the people with me wanted to try it. The spaetzle tasted like it had not been seasoned at all. The Weiner schnitzel came with was... More

Very diverse menu and great beer selection. Hard working and very friendly wait staff. German and American food all very good. You cannot go wrong here. An Evansville favorite....highly recommended.

By the name, one would expect German cuisine-the Gerst offers even more-located in an old hardware store, many tell-tale signs show its age but this adds to the uniqueness-from brautwerst to kraut balls it has it all along with multiple beers for sampling with daily and weekly specials. The restaurant offers daily food specials hand written on blackboard as you... More

The Gerst has great German food and a vast selection of draught and bottled beer. My personal favorites are the goulash, cornbread, and potato cakes!

This is a German fare pub in an old renovated hardware store. The food is very good. Terrific old tavern atmosphere. It can get loud and crowded on weekends. Outside seating in good weather. If you have a hearing problem pick a booth.
