Never been to Germany but I've brought Germans here

I believe that this is truly authentic German food. We have had friends from Germany dine with us here. They say it is genuine. I think it is very good fare but not great. They have LOTS of different beers and sampling those is fun too. We go on a semi-regular basis.

In a community that was largely settled by German immigrants, a restaurant of this cuisine doesn't remain open if the food fails to satisfy old country standards. Until the latest experience, a trip to Evansville always included a scrumptous meal at this eatery. Stepping into this place is like being transported to another era. Housed in a former high-ceilinged hardware... More

I went here to meet a few friends for a drink and dinner. The bar is beautiful. Original and old, it just makes you want to sit there all day and look around at this historic restaurant. The place was packed. They have seating in the bar or in a family area. They serve German food with a few classics... More

Great old historic building. Worth stopping just to experience that. But even more worth it for the food. I had the potato pancakes as an appetizer. They were great, with a home made applesauce like my German grandmother used to make. The Sauerbraten was excellent, as where the Spaetzle and Red Cabbage sides. A good, solid, German meal that I... The Gerst Haus is an Evansville asset to visit over and over again! The atmosphere is very alive and nostalgic. I love the antiques and the overall feel to the place. The food is fantastic! Wonderful German food plus choices to please the pickiest of eaters! Want to drink a special beer? Gerst Haus has it!

Ready for something different? Especially if you are visiting Evansville, you should consider Gerst. You can decent steak houses, Chinese, Mexican or Italian food many places. Not many areas, however, have a place with excellent traditional German food. The staff will gladly help you through the schnitzel options. If those don't strike your fancy, go for the smoked pork chop...... More

This restaurant is located inside a very old hardware store with fabulous architectural details. The place is always crowded. Lots of large family groups gather here. There are many, many different beers to try, many on tap. The burgers are really good and I'm told the reubens are fantastic.

Took a friend from Indy here for dinner. We had been to October fest in Munich together, so I knew we could find the same beers here. Beer was fine, but too cold, sorry america, not all beer needs to be 33 deg. or in a frosted mug, especially in January. He was fine with his schnitzel, but it looked... More

This restaurant is an intersection between a German Beer House and a hunting lodge. There are too many tasty beers on tap to count and a great section of sausages, and other German dishes to choose from. I have eaten here many times and always enjoyed the potato pancakes, red cabbage and apple strudel desert. It's pretty much a must... More
