Great decor and good Irish pub food

The pub has a long and interesting history in Bloomington. Thankfully the building has been preserved very well and still has an authentic pub feel. The pub is very clean and up to date and the Irish food selection is very good. Nice selection of single malt scotch and British beers.

Stopped in for lunch while in Bloomington for a conference. Couldn't partake of their alcoholic selections, but the bar is impressive. Had the fish and chips. Nice batter on the fish, not formed fish patties, but actual fish filets! The steak fries were well prepared, not seasoned. Service was attentive without being obtrusive and it was enjoyably quiet allowing for... More

My wife and two young daughters stopped in for lunch and were blown away by the atmosphere and quality of the food and service. Everything we ate (fish and chips and shepherd's pie) tasted great, was made fresh from scratch, and tasted totally authentic. I highly recommend this place.

My new son-in-law's rehearsal dinner was booked at this restaurant recently. At the time that the reservation was made, the Irish lion was told that a couple of grandmas would be in the party and we needed a location that didn't involve climbing stairs. Upon arrival for dinner, we were told that our party was booked on second floor of... More

Irish pub in a historic building downtown Bloomington. The menu included both Standard Americn dishes as well as some traditional Irish items. Food and service were both good. The only disappointment was no Irish music. Restrooms were on the second floor requiring climbing stairs. I was unsure if there was any accommodations for handicapped individuals.

I visited Bloomington on business travel for three weeks with a fixed per diem budget and this place became a go-to for dinner. The interior, absolutely gorgeous, paintings, wooden ship models hanging from the ceiling, a "unique" floor plan (multiple stairways between 4 half levels). I ate St. Patrick's Dinner there, sampling the escargot, corned beef and cabbage, a few... More

We were one of the first customers this day but it felt like they were anxious to serve us because everything was setup and ready for business. Eggs benedict is the specialty on the Sunday brunch menu. Outstanding both with regular Canadian bacon and with salmon. Great cocktails for brunch. Worth the effort, the restaurant is just west of the... More

Absolutely love this place! The wonderful atmosphere and equally great food, the very polite and attentive servers and bartenders. Taken people there that have been visiting and they loved it, now every time they come they insist on visiting The Lion. The food is always hot and fresh, the apple walnut cake is delectable, and my personal favorite is the... More

I love the atmosphere downstairs and have always had a good drink, but the thing that brings me to Irish Lion specifically is Blarney Puffballs, cheesy yummy fried potatoes.
