Good beer selection and Irish food

Traditional Irish food available. My friends tell me it's good -- I wouldn't know because I don't really like Irish food. There's plenty of other food selections, and lots of beer brands/types to choose from. Like Crazy Horse next door, it has a "bar" feel, and is somewhat cramped. Good... read more

The food is always awesome (especially that Celtic Stew!!!). I've never had bad service here (>10 visits). The scotch selection is unmatched. The only bad thing about this place is the nasty stairs to the restroom, which is simply the product of an old building, I think.

The Irish Lion in Bloomington, Indiana is one of my favorite places to go for comfort food. I have been here many times over the years, and they are consistantly delightful in their culinary offerings as well as the liquid libations available from the bar. The restaurant has ample seating available as well as an outdoor seating area during the... More

Lovely place! Really glad we had dinner here! Decor/any table's view 5 stars. We were seated atop bar (check out coyote) makes you feel like howling-or perhaps that was the Mai tai anyway outstanding McFarland Mai Tai! Halibut and filet mignon, both quite delish. Even the simple house salad was extra good. Love their rice!! Cannot say anything bad about... More

We were there last Sunday for lunch before leaving town. Quint Pub atmosphere and a beautiful antique décor. We just had sandwiches but I also had the Coddle Stew that I though was "great". Seemed a little pricey side so I probably would not go back for dinner with a big family, just keep it for a place for the... More

The Irish Lion has been a popular watering hole for decades in Bloomington. One of the opening scene pictures on the show Cheers was from this pub. My husband and I consider this our go-to place when traveling from our country home to Bloomington 50 miles away. The building is old and quirky, with various levels, but our favorite place to... My husband and I like to walk the downtown rails to trails and then stop in for an early supper at the Irish Lion. Lovely old pub atmosphere with an extensive bar. Some of our favorite foods are the Brie plate with the delicious soda bread and We like both the trout and salmon entrees. A good, longstanding Bloomington restaurant.

I had the lamb chops which was very good, the potatoes were okay with kind of a bland flavor. The pub was nice and the staff was very nice. Had the fried mushrooms appetizer which was excellent.

Atmosphere, food and bar all great. However, extremely over priced. Expect to spend $25 to $35 dollars per plate, per person. If you drink alcohol tack on another $4 per drink on average.
