The decor in this Irish pub / restaurant is authentic and reflects the menu choices. The furnishings and layout are inconveniently old world. Service and food quality was excellent. There are many good drink options, if you want to stay awhile and visit.

The atmosphere was cool and laid back. The place wasn't busy at all for a Saturday afternoon which was surprising and nice. (there was a fair amount of student move-in going on outside) The beer prices were fair and we loved the oysters (I know, Indiana=oysters? but yes!) and the brie plate. The soda bread is exquisite. It's dense and... More

We don't get to Bloomington a lot these days but when we do, a stop at the Irish Lion is usually in the cards. There is a row of little booths just opposite the long polished wooden bar. They are up a couple of steps from bar level. These booths are where we liked to sit. Blarney Puffballs are deep... More

It was my first dining experience in Bloomington, In. The ambiance was pretty good. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a pint, apps and supper. The bartender really took her time pouring my pint of Guinness and even included a shamrock as the beer settled. The food was good, but have to say the best part of the soda... More

We had great fish and chips. The restaurant does look like an authentic Irish Pub. Be advised that under 21 cannot sit in main area of the pub. Our waiter was great...service was fast...and food was amazing.

Every few years, my faculty group winds up at The Irish Lion for our faculty dinner. Last night, we enjoyed ourselves at this wonderful Bloomington restaurant. First, I have to explain that all faculty members begin enthusiastic whispers of "Blarney Puffballs" as soon as we realize The Irish Lion is in our future. These incredible fried mashed potato & cheese... More

Last time I was in the Irish Lion was 25 years ago. During a recent visit to Bloomington, I was happy to see that the Irish Lion has maintained and even improved its wonderful offerings! Just a great place to sit outside and have a drink or dinner. Prices are reasonable, wait staff is very friendly and professional. Food and... More

The Irish Pub is unique to Bloomington and always has great food, beer and service. We go often and have never had a bad experience. The Fish and Chips, Corned Beef and Cabbage and Prime Rib are exceptional and consistently good. The Potato Puff Balls appetizer is like nothing I have had anywhere else- a must try. They have specials... More

I visited Irish Lion during the International Tuba & Euphonium conference at the University of Indiana in May, 2014. I wanted a quick meal in between the conference activities. The evening special was stuffed trout. It was cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, the meal outstanding. If I lived in the Bloomington area, I would go out of my... More

We met out-of-town friends here on a Monday evening. There were enough menu options that everyone easily found something they enjoyed - from traditional Irish pub food (fish and chips) to grilled halibut, chicken cordon bleu, chicken kiev and fettucine alfredo. Prices were reasonable. The best part was that we were able to visit for an extended time since we... More
