Fun and Funky

Located in a building that was formerly a residence, Runcible Spoon is a lovingly decorated, quirky little place with a reputation for excellent breakfasts. We were greeted by the sticker that says they serve everybody, which is already a point in their favor. We had homemade corned beef hash, a... read more

Loved the ambiance, the staff and especially the food - breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal of the day, and this menu had lots to choose from. I'm fussy about biscuits and gravy, and theirs was delicous. My daughter enjoyed her eggs benedict and her friends omelet looked delicious - thin, yet stuffed with good stuff. Giant bellini's and vegetarian options... More

Enjoyed hippy atmosphere and decor, plate-sized unadorned blueberry pancakes, large bowl of fresh (albeit expensive) fruit, and fresh egg, cheese and mushrooms on an English Muffin. Coffee was stale and refills hard to come by. With so many options in this college town, it's hard to see why anyone would rush back.

Has been an all time favorite of mine since moving to Btown 12 years ago. Always great locally grown food, wonderful coffee (roasted in house) and pleasant, efficient staff-- always a smile of welcome. Favorite coffee: blond mocha; breakfast: pancakes; lunch/dinner: salmon- My tastebuds always leave singing.

Young college students frequent this restaurant as it is on the Indiana University campus. Oddly enough a group of retirees choose this restaurant one day a year for their outing. It doesn't matter who is dining, everyone is treated to great food, attentive service, and a good time. The salmon entree is always great as are the sides; side salad...not... More

We go - we eat - we smile. If you like college towns this is the place to feel the Btown breakfast vibe. Full of life and character. The entrees are unique - the potatoes awesome. Outdoor seasonal dining is available. This is an old house so has many smaller areas to enjoy. I always get French toast and my... More

The Runcible Spoon's atmosphere seems a throwback to the 1970s, when coffee houses were first becoming popular in Bloomington and when each had an ambience created from a combination of long-haired folks, brightly printed garb, and a melange of smells created mainly from coffee aroma and cigarette smoke. The servers are friendly, the coffee is excellent, and the breakfasts are... More

When I first saw the Runcible Spoon I asked myself what the big deal was. Old house squeezed in between other old houses near IU and Kirkwood Avenue. Quaint and a nice front garden for outside dining. Inside it is old everything but with a vitality all its' own. All ages enjoy this dining venue and it is a frequent... More

Went here for breakfast one snowy morning. It is in a lovely little house and the tables are rather crammed in, I guess adding the unique atmosphere. The person sitting at the next table was literally sitting right next to me like we were at the same table. The service was good and the food was very good. This is... More

I see others talking about breakfast and this may be great for that but dinner was just okay. Quirky decor is fine but the bench seating areas are fully beyond their useful life, many many tears, need to be replaced. Menu is somewhat limited to a few items in each category. Two of us had different steak items. The steak... More
