My wife and I walked into Michael's Uptown Cafe on a busy Friday night and scored the last available two seat table in the place. What a find! Excellent service. The Honey BBQ ribs were among the best ever and my wife's grouper was delicious. Let's not forget the apple crisp with ice cream and two forks for dessert. Very... More

This is a large airy space located just off the square in downtown Bloomington: stamped tin ceiling, well spaced tables, dark wood booths. It appeared to be a choice for business lunches. The major drawback was that it is a little noisy. The fare is Cajun-American so expect many of the offerings to be spicy as in hot spicy. I... More

My wife and I stopped for Sunday breakfast before we departed Bloomington to return to Indianapolis. The night before we ate at Finch's and were disappointed. We walked past Uptown Cafe and it appeared to be "hopping". We noticed it was highly ranked on Trip Advisor and that it was open on Sunday for breakfast so we decided to give... More

Was a little pricey, but worth it!! We had the calamari/shrimp appetizer, was awesome, wish there was more calamari though. My Hubby had the New York Strip, cooked med rare to perfection, I had a bite, it melted in my mouth!! I had the shrimp and grits, shrimp was plump and well cooked, grits were yummy creamy!! Will definitely consider... More

Have taken a Pike Central High School Honors Junior English/Literature class, family members, visitors to Bloomington; it is my son and my favorite. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all offer the best and many delicate and varied ways of preparation.

When we want a good meal, good drinks and a friendly atmosphere, the Uptown is our go to place. We are here at least once a month or so. If the special happens to be Lake Perch, try it. Lake Perch is not a common menu item in this part of Indiana, but is very popular elsewhere in the state,... More

My husband is pretty selective about where he dines out. He loves fine dining, and Michael's Uptown never disappoints. The service is always friendly without being overly solicitous, the servers very knowledgeable about the menu and quick with suggestions. Their fillet is the only one my husband can rely on to be excellent. Excellent place for a great meal.

My daughter and I went recently to Michael's Uptown Cafe on a Friday evening. She is a vocal performance major, and of the two of us, it is she who would be singing praises . . . which is as it should be. Her Chicken in Pepper Sauce was quite good; my pot roast not so much. The wedge salads... More

When you read a review, you wonder how good a place really is. Well this one lived up to everything I read. Good food, excellent service, and great atmosphere. What enticed me was the creole meatloaf. Very tasty, perfect portion size. I opted for the vegetable of the day which was asparagus. As we know it can be stringy or... More
