Great food, average service

I usually order the pho here--I would daresay that it is the best in Bloomington. The broth is very savory, just the way I like it. I also like the atmosphere, as the walls are covered with Burmese art. When I went in for pho recently with a friend, there were barely enough bean sprouts for the two... read more

I certainly don't understand why anyone would want or even choose to close in the middle of the day. I really think that is asinine and don't know how they think they are better by closing and not making money that could be made I thought the idea of having a business was to make money not lose it .... I love trying food from different cultures, so I was excited when I was invited to Mandalay. I ordered a typical vegetarian dish of stir fried rice and veggies. It was delicious, but needed more seasoning (maybe some salt?). It reminded me a lot of Thai and Indian food. My favourite part of the lunch was the "Mandalay Fritters" they... More

I have never in all of my years smelled or tasted an entree that was nastier! I ordered the Chicken Curry and thought I might seriously hurl when she put it on the table in front of me. The smell made my stomach lurch. We had guests with us so I was in a very awkward position. I tried to... More

My husband comes to Bloomington every year for work and every time we visit Mandalay. I used to say nothing but great things and considered it one of my favorite places to eat. The food was excellent, service pleasant and quick. The place has a tacky décor but it never bothered me since everything else was so great. We went... More

They never disappoint. Unfortunately Bloomington is lacking in good Chinese food. Although Mandalay is listed as Burmese, it comes closest to decent Chinese, with some dishes that remind me of Singapore and Malaysia (as well as Burma). Try the Mandalay Special Platter (Assorted Appetizers - 4 samosa, 2 fried egg roll, and 2 Mandalay fritter served with chili and sweet... More

This tiny eatery in Bloomington offers friendly service and delicious Asian food in a casual college setting. The curries we tried were very flavorful and spiced to the degree we had requested. We would gladly eat there again. They might not serve alcohol, so don't go expecting to have a brew with your beef curry. But don't let that keep... More

First of all, there were no negatives. Everything was fine and the prices aren't as high as many in that area. It's not a bad value. My only criticism is that in that same area are better places to enjoy a dining experience. The food was good. I give very high marks to their sauces. And maybe we just got... More

We were looking for an ethnic restaurant while in Bloomington, IN and searched in the 4th Street area. There are several options, all located in converted houses............very charming. The options were very good, as there is a Turkish, Thai, and Mexican establishment right down the street. We chose Mandalay as we were seeking Asian. The springrolls were delicious. They came... We never had any Burmese food at all,a nd tried this. I got a salmon with spicy tamarind sauce; my husband had catfish with gneger garlic sauce. I requested no salt because of my high blood pressure, and they accommodated my request. The serving is sufficient to feel satiety. Very quick service, no long wait at all. We went there... More
