We were searching for a German restaurant and found it here !! Starts with buffet salad bar, then assortment of sausages and then Apple Strudel. PERFECT !! Waitress could have been a little more enthusiastic since we were so happy on vacation.

This is an old hotel and restaurant. The hotel is very interesting. They have much of the historical information available. They have a german restaurant on site that is good but a bit pricey for the location.

We have stopped here before when traveling through the area and enjoyed it very much. This time, however, we stopped for a late lunch and were disappointed with our food. As usual, the restaurant sparkled and the service was good. We both had the French onion soup which had little flavor and large pieces of onion which had not been... More

We went this evening for dinner with friends. They first serve you with little pastry donut type with fresh homemade applebutter for dipping. Oh my goodness they are wonderful. We started with the appetizer platter that had potato pancakes, fried pickles and sauerkraut balls. That was amazing. The best sauerkraut balls ever. I ordered the beer battered cod sandwich with... The Sherman House is something of an institution in Batesville. We stopped here for a working business breakfast - it is a convenient place to meet halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati. The restaurant itself is dark and uncomfortable. The tables reminded me of a school cafeteria, and they were not set. The food was average. The omelet I had tasted... More

Just off I-74, between Indianapolis and Cincinnati, in downtown Batesville, is the Sherman House Restaurant and Inn. I was staying in the area on business and asked the front desk manager at my hotel (Hampton Inn) for a dinner recommendation and she suggested I check out the Sherman House ... it was a great suggestion. I got there at 8PM,... More

We spent part of our honeymoon here and it was great. Very sweet romantic atmosphere. Especially if you like history. Want to go back for an anniversary

Stopped in tentatively for a late lunch/early dinner ~5p on a trip between Cincinati and Indianapolis. We were the only people there under 60 yrs old and although the architecture and decor were interesting, I wondered if we'd made a mistake - but that could not have been further from the truth! German food was terrific, portions large, and staff... More

The location is in downtown Batesville. The food was old style German like and was very good. We were served fried biscuits and apple butter. The taste was great on the biscuits alone. My wife had the half and half soup and chicken salad sandwich. She said the soup was very good. The kids had chicken fingers and corn dog... More

I am reviewing the Sherman House Hotel. This is an institution in Batesville, IN, and for 39 years we've driven past on our way from Chgo to Cinti wanting to stop. We are glad we finally did! This hotel might not be for those who only like franchise lodging as it is old enough to feel like Gen. Sherman could... More
