This restaurant is on the historic Woodstock square. It is in the old courthouse - jail building. I did not see any signs of the jail bars other reviews referenced. I did go looking for the before I left. I did find them along with what looked like the original steel door. Very interesting... read more

I love the public house, their new location is awfully different but their food makes it worth the while. I appreciated the old location, it felt so "underground" and "secretive" which created a unique atmosphere..its very open now, but I would still go back for the food. the last time i ate in, the service was lacking, the gentleman informed... Following the funeral for my Mother, all 32 attendees went to the Public House for Lunch (yes, we made a reservation ahead of time). They did an outstanding job serving all of us. We got a private room that we could all hear each other and the food was outstanding, only to be outdone by the great service we received.... More

Fantastic food, original menu, interesting atmosphere. Love the jail cells! Dined outside on the square and listened to music from the annual folk festival. Didn't see Bill MUrray.

Being a great fan of the Crystal Lake Public House and having visited the old downstairs Woodstock Pub many times, I was anxious to try it in its new location. We ate outdoors and reminisced about when it was the Jailhouse restaurant. We were served by an energetic and pleasant waitress. I ordered a hamburger with Swiss cheese, and was... More

The Public House is a great place to eat. The quesadilla I had was delicious, the steak was so tender and flavorful. It was quite large, much larger than I would have thought as an appetizer, enough to take home for another meal. The atmosphere was great, we were meeting another couple for lunch. There was no problem with us... More

We used to enjoy a previous restaurant in the old Courthouse building as well as the Public House in their previous location. When the Public House moved to the old Courthouse building we were so excited! The environment is inviting and great for socializing, the food is excellent (especially the fish tacos!), and the staff is very friendly and attentive.... More

I hesitate to give the Public House a "3", but I can't quite justify a "4" yet. First, the new location is much better than the previous one (which was in a basement and felt like it). Service was very good even on a Saturday night. The food was.....fine. We had no complaints, but were disappointed in the the homemade... More
