Decent Meal, Pleasant Atmosphere

Visiting in Woodstock and looking for some place different for a meal. We were directed to Public House. Our group was seated in an old jail cell. Service was excellent and prompt. Our food was good and served in a timely fashion. We were a group of 8 and all were quite satisfied. I had the... read more

The Public House is located in a special old building, the historic county courthouse - and retains historic character and charm. Unfortunately that was about the extent of the special experience. The food - chicken salad and clam chowder and even the pot stickers as an appetizer were bland. The server was personable and prompt and the staff is attentive.Unfortunately... More

We've been patrons of the Public House for years, so we decided to stop in for lunch at the new location. I'd been looking forward to a WPH (Woodstock Public House) Burger for weeks.....but sadly, was unimpressed. It was a late lunch, so the restaurant wasn't crowded; we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. But when the food arrived it... More

The new Sunday brunch is here along with an exceptional Bloody Mary Bar! The menu items for breakfast is wonderful and now the option for a great brunch is also available. Beautiful seating with sunny views of the square is such a wonderful way to start Sundays! The staff is unbelievably warm and friendly that only makes the food and... More

Several months ago The Public House moved to this larger space in Woodstock. The menu has stayed pretty much the same but with a few new items. The kitchen is at one end so the wait staff at the other end has a lot of walking to do. Overall the food is good and served in a timely manner.

We are happy that you had a chance to visit our new location in the Old Courthouse and we appreciate you taking the time to write a review for us. We have added a few new menu items, as you mentioned, and as always be changing those seasonally to keep up with what is the freshest in season. Our kitchen... More

I have loved lunch at this restaurant for many years (in the old location)...excellent burgers and the service was always impeccable, however, we just did dinner at the new location and I was disappointed. I had specifically made reservations (a month or more ahead of time) because we were celebrating a special night. Well...when we came in at 6:00pm the... More

Always love the Clam Chowder and Ruben combo. Clam Chowder is full of Clams, no skimping here! Prices are moderate. They moved to a new location with a lot more space, but they are still in the Old Woodstock Square at the Old Courthouse. Came here on Valentines day after a movie and was seated right away.

I went here for lunch with a group from work. It is a new location, they recently moved about a block. Everything was clean and the server was very friendly. The whole group enjoyed their meal and the price was reasonable, I will definitely go back.

Let me start by saying that this is (and has been) one of my favorite places in the area. Not in Woodstock, in the area. They have quality food and offer gluten free options that aren't a standard in McHenry County. Their move into the Old Courthouse building is, in my opinion, fabulous. I always despised the underground location down... More

The new location didn't do anything to improve the variety of food choices. I know a lot of people in Woodstock rave about this place, but I just don't get it. The atmosphere is cold and uninviting. Crammed in tables that the hostess and owner are unaware of. We were first taken to a table right by the kitchen door.... More
