Down home food!

My wife, who grew up in the area and ate here frequently when she was at Rend Lake College 40 years ago, took me here for dinner. It should tell you something that it's been around for a long time. All of the food was tasty, and we especially enjoyed the catfish, which was cooked just right... read more

Can't really choose which was worse - the food or the service. 'Burton' burger was pretty much uneatable - no taste, greasy burger, bacon and grilled onions were like rubber; fries semi-cold and all stuck together. When I sat down the 'server' asked immediately what I wanted - gave me no chance to look at the menu but pushed the... More

What a great diner. We had the fried chicken and roast beef. Very very good. Met the owner - what a nice gentleman. We were there on a Sunday at noon and the place was packed. They are closed on Mondays. Would definitely eat there again. Also the Staff were very friendly.

Against the advice of our local relatives, we wanted to try Burton's but wee sorely disappointed. The corn bread tasted like soap (really), the catfish was tasteless, the chicken and dumplings were mediocre (ours at home are better), the service was average. Then came the white pie, which was average at best. The custard pie was tasteless. The sides were... More

Ate here for supper one night. Waitress was nice enough though she messed up on 3 out of the 6 orders. Food was ok but nothing to brag about. Probably would not go back if anything else is available.

If you're into good old-fashioned Mom & Pop cafes, you'll love Burton's. The home cookin' style food is excellent, the decor is nice and the service can't be beat. OMG...leave room for their famous dessert pies!!

I have enjoyed eating at Burton's for nearly 50 years, and I recommend them to anyone who asks. The food is excellent, as is the service. It is nothing fancy, but you can't beat it if you want a great meal. The pies remind me of those at an old-time church homecoming dinner, but be sure to order it when... More

Eat here occasionally and never disappointed! My favorite is the fried fish special. Regardless of what you order, save room for their awesome pie! They have a unique pie called White Pie, however my favorite is the cocoanut cream! There slogan is fitting --- Life is short, eat your pie first! Located on Route 37. Easy access for interstate travelers... More
