We often walk over from Arborfield via the woods on a nice day and sit outside with a drink or two. No issue to sit outside to eat and it really is peaceful with fields every which way and the odd car or two driving through Swallowfield. Staff at bar were friendly and helpful. The Thatchers Cider on tap is... More

A lovely old fashioned pub that has been turned into a restaurant/pub. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere with real log fires in winter. I had a filet of sea bass which was delicious, others had shoulder of lamb that fell off the bone. What really let's this restaurant down is the service. Once the meals where served the staff... Called here with my wife "on spec", as we were looking for a place for dinner. Not disappointed at all. Service slick, friendly, and polite. Food excellent (lamb shank and sausage and mash). Nice ambience about the place, which was pretty busy for a mid-week evening. Popular, I would think, with locals. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

Visited mid week with a pre-booked party of 11. The food was reasonable with a fairly varied menu however the service overall was poor. The table was not big enough for the party, the staff appeared surly and not attentive, not considering the needs of the table e.g.wrong cutlery. The staff did not even say thank you when we pointed out... More

This is becoming my "local" even if its 1hr 45mins walk away, or 45mins on a bike mainly across fields. a) old world pub b) allows dogs in the bar area where you can dine with the same menu as the restaurant c) great menu and ever changing specials that are also yummy d) you can ask for child/half portions... We were looking for a lunch stop on our way back from holiday recently and settled on the George and Dragon as it looked attractive as we drove by, and promised a garden to sit in as we had our dog with us. I wasn't aware that dogs were actually allowed in the bar, but the garden proved to be... More

We use this as our local, even though its a 1hour 45min walk away, or a 45 minute bike ride. Dogs are allowed in the bar area which is handy for us. You can eat very well in the bar area but the number of tables are limited so you would need to book in advance. Staff are always super... More

Fish and chips with mushy peas and large prawns with garlic bread and salad. A perfect lunch again thank you!

Disappointing. The menu showed promise but didn't deliver. I had Venison fillet, haggis mash, parsley carrots and red wine sauce at £22.50. The venison was pretty tasteless but was tender. The mash - yeuk! A grey splodge with unidentifiable lumps in it. Red wine sauce was just a flavourless gravy. Friendly staff though and olde worlde pub surroundings.

Been here three times and ordered the same every time as it is amazing Starter of whole cambert with onion relish - wicked Steak and skinny fries and peppercorn sauce on the lunch menu - masses of chips, cooked to perfection My only dilema was adding a good review, as best to keep this a hidden secret, brilliant. Oh and... More
